CropLife Magazine Unveils Annual List of Top 100 U.S. Ag Retailers

CropLife magazine — sister publication to AgriBusiness Global — has published its annual CropLife 100, a listing of the largest U.S. ag retailers ranked by sales.

Companies included in the 2017 ranking were limited to independent dealerships and cooperatives offering fertilizer, crop protection products, seed, and custom application services.

Overall, it has been a good year for the top 100 companies. “According to the survey, CropLife 100 respondents saw their collective revenues increase from $29.6 billion in 2016 to just below $29.8 billion,” said Eric Sfiligoj, CropLife Editor. “Although this represented less than a 1% gain of their sales from the prior year, this was still a much better outcome compared with the almost 3% revenue drop CropLife 100 retailers saw play out during 2016.”

Crop Production Services (CPS) again maintains its position as the country’s leading retailer with more than $1 billion in sales, 45 states served, and 850 retail outlets. This marks the 34th year CPS has appeared in the CropLife 100.

The top seven companies— which all surpassed $1 billion in retail sales this year — also includes Helena Chemical, GROWMARK, Wilbur-Ellis, CHS, Pinnacle Agriculture Holdings, and Simplot Grower Solutions. The total sales for this group was $20.4 billion in 2017, which is nearly 70% of all CropLife 100 sales ($29.8 billion). Collectively, this group also increased its total amount of revenue by almost $500 million. Despite this fact, only two of the seven companies represented in this grouping recorded sales increases in 2017.
