Monsanto Interested in Acquiring Bayer’s CropScience Unit – Reuters

Citing anonymous sources, Reuters news agency said Monsanto has approached Bayer AG about a potential acquisition of its CropScience business worth more than $30 billion.

The move follows Monsanto’s failed bid for Syngenta, which agreed earlier this year to be acquired by ChemChina for $43 billion, as the crop protection industry continues a wave of consolidation.

“Monsanto executives met in Chicago recently to discuss the company’s interest in Bayer’s agricultural assets, the sources said this week. Monsanto sees valuable synergies between its seed business and the crop protection assets of Bayer, the sources added,” Reuters said.
