Direct Seeding On Rice Improves Weed Control

rice With water becoming an evermore critical commodity, paddy farmers in Punjab are embracing new techniques that do not require keeping their fields flooded. The techniques, known as direct seeding and drum seeding, allow for less water and labor, and if widely adopted, the opportunity for increased use of herbicides, according to an article in Business Standard.

“The key to the success of direct seeding of paddy is weed control that is otherwise taken care of by puddling and keeping fields flooded during and after the sowing. In direct sowing, weeds are controlled by spraying herbicides before seeding and again after about a month, if needed,” according to the article.
