Valent’s Presidio Fungicide Registered for Use on Tobacco

The Environmental Protection Agency has registered Valent U.S.A. Corp.’s Presidio Fungicide for use on tobacco. This new label use gives tobacco growers a new tool for controlling two tough diseases, blank shank and blue mold.

According to the company, Presidio delivers protection against fast-moving black shank in flue-cured, burley, dark and cigar tobacco. Presidio research trials show consistent preventive control of black shank and protection of yield potential.

In addition, Presidio offers tobacco growers a novel mode of action (sole member of FRAC Group 43) that’s an effective tool for resistance management.

“Presidio offers a flexible new chemistry for black shank control,” said Kenneth Seebold, product development manager for Valent. “Fluopicolide, the active ingredient in Presidio, is highly active in the soil. Presidio has demonstrated outstanding results when applied at planting in the transplant water and in rotation programs at first cultivation or layby.”
