TAMALE, Ghana - El vicepresidente de Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, anunci\u00f3 que el gobierno dedicar\u00eda $2.4 millones de d\u00f3lares, m\u00e1s otros $1 mill\u00f3n en subsidios agr\u00edcolas generales, para renovar la industria del algod\u00f3n del pa\u00eds, que disminuy\u00f3 en los a\u00f1os 80 y 90 debido a la infertilidad del suelo y la alto costo de los productos agr\u00edcolas y del suelo y otros insumos agr\u00edcolas, informa Agencia de noticias de Ghana<\/a>. En el marco del nuevo programa de apoyo al algod\u00f3n, se instruy\u00f3 a los agricultores a seguir el asesoramiento t\u00e9cnico de los agricultores de Extensi\u00f3n Agr\u00edcola en lugar de las pr\u00e1cticas agr\u00edcolas tradicionales. Las pr\u00e1cticas agr\u00edcolas tradicionales o culturales fueron nombradas como uno de los desaf\u00edos para la industria, junto con las altas tasas de inter\u00e9s de los pr\u00e9stamos bancarios y el apoyo financiero inadecuado, seg\u00fan la Asociaci\u00f3n Nacional de Agricultores de Algod\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Mahama dijo que el apoyo financiero ayudar\u00eda a los agricultores a preparar sus tierras y obtener semillas, fertilizantes y productos qu\u00edmicos para la protecci\u00f3n de cultivos de calidad. El objetivo de este a\u00f1o es cultivar 10.000 hect\u00e1reas con una producci\u00f3n de 10.000 toneladas m\u00e9tricas, lo que seg\u00fan Mahama ayudar\u00e1 al gobierno a determinar los niveles futuros de apoyo necesarios para reactivar la industria.<\/p>\n

Las tres regiones del norte, Norte, Alto Oriente y Alto Oeste, tienen capacidad tanto para el consumo local como para las exportaciones, seg\u00fan Mahama Ayariga, viceministra de Comercio e Industria.
