Noticias<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>El estudio, descrito en la revista <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/ng\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gen\u00e9tica de la naturaleza<\/a>, se\u00f1al\u00f3 que la productividad de una planta de arroz est\u00e1 determinada por varios rasgos: el n\u00famero y tama\u00f1o de sus granos; la altura de la planta; y su \u00e9poca de floraci\u00f3n, que refleja su respuesta al clima imperante.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00f1os de trabajo previo en la investigaci\u00f3n del arroz han ayudado a los cient\u00edficos a acercarse al cromosoma 7 de la planta para un gen que parece afectar estas tres caracter\u00edsticas, lo que el art\u00edculo describe como &quot;la secuencia m\u00e1gica&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>El gen fue identificado por un equipo dirigido por Qifa Zhang de <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hzau.edu.cn\/en1.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Universidad Agr\u00edcola de Huangzhong<\/a> en Wuhan. Su equipo plant\u00f3 30.000 plantas de arroz en un intento por rastrear el gen. Las plantaciones iniciales se redujeron a 1.082 plantas que ten\u00edan rendimientos bajos reveladores, ya que ten\u00edan menos granos y m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os, eran cortos y florec\u00edan antes. Se descubri\u00f3 que el culpable de los problemas de rendimiento era la falta de un gen llamado Ghd7.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando se introdujo Ghd7 en estas plantas rezagadas, los rasgos de rendimiento se transformaron. El tiempo necesario para la floraci\u00f3n se duplic\u00f3 y las plantas se volvieron casi dos tercios m\u00e1s altas. Luego, los investigadores tomaron una instant\u00e1nea de c\u00f3mo funcionaba Ghd7 en 19 cepas diferentes de arroz que se originan en toda Asia, desde Jap\u00f3n en el norte hasta Filipinas, Myanmar e India en el sur. Encontraron cinco mutaciones diferentes del gen clave.<\/p>\n<p>Se encontraron versiones menos activas o inactivas de Ghd7 en el arroz cultivado en regiones m\u00e1s fr\u00edas.
