UU., Identificaron la Leu7-surfactina como el compuesto inhibidor que controla F. verticillioides. El estudio del equipo de investigaci\u00f3n se public\u00f3 en la edici\u00f3n de abril de 2009 de la revista Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. <\/p>\n<p> B. mojavensis, un conocido agente de control biol\u00f3gico, es una bacteria que reside en las plantas y que puede usarse para controlar enfermedades f\u00fangicas en el ma\u00edz y otras plantas. La Leu7-surfactina aislada demostr\u00f3 ser eficaz para inhibir el crecimiento del hongo en pruebas de laboratorio. Surfactin tiene una actividad similar a la de un detergente que disuelve las membranas lip\u00eddicas dentro del hongo y finalmente lo mata.<\/p>\n<p>En las pruebas de Bacon, la Leu7-surfactina fue eficaz para controlar F. verticillioides en concentraciones muy bajas de 20 microgramos por litro de l\u00edquido, lo que la hace m\u00e1s eficiente de usar. El equipo de investigaci\u00f3n del ARS dice que las propiedades del compuesto crean un gran potencial para aplicaciones biotecnol\u00f3gicas y biofarmac\u00e9uticas.<\/p>\n<p>Bacon y sus colegas examinaron todas las cepas actualmente disponibles de B. mojavensis y encontraron que todas las cepas son endof\u00edticas (viven dentro de la planta) y todas eran activas contra F. verticillioides y otros hongos en pruebas de laboratorio.
