Estas empresas difieren enormemente y pueden orientar sus negocios logrando registros de agroqu\u00edmicos gen\u00e9ricos en mercados desatendidos, comprando derechos sobre los productos a los titulares de patentes o simplemente fabricando y vendiendo sus productos a un costo menor que el de los proveedores originales. La \u00fanica similitud que une a estas empresas son sus modelos de negocio: a diferencia de los de las grandes empresas, no se dedican al descubrimiento de qu\u00edmicas novedosas.<\/p>\n<p> Si bien los proveedores posteriores a la patente no son nuevos, su presencia entre las empresas de qu\u00edmica agr\u00edcola de primer nivel s\u00ed lo es. En 2005, tres de las 10 principales empresas de agroqu\u00edmica por ventas (Makhteshim-Agan Industries, Nufarm y Arysta LifeSciences) ten\u00edan una gran parte de sus ventas derivadas de productos post-patente. Varias otras empresas, incluidas Cheminova, Sipcam-Oxon, Chemtura, Cerexagri, Gowan Co. y United Phosphorus Ltd., se clasificaron entre las empresas de agroqu\u00edmica m\u00e1s grandes del mundo.
