Las estad\u00edsticas muestran una imagen clara del valor que los avances tecnol\u00f3gicos modernos en el mejoramiento de semillas de ma\u00edz tienen para los productores de ma\u00edz en \u00e1reas donde el barrenador del ma\u00edz es dif\u00edcil o imposible de controlar a trav\u00e9s de otros m\u00e9todos de control de plagas. Las regiones de Arag\u00f3n y Catalu\u00f1a son las m\u00e1s susceptibles a la infestaci\u00f3n por el barrenador del ma\u00edz y, desde 2001, los agricultores de estas dos comunidades aut\u00f3nomas han aumentado dr\u00e1sticamente las plantaciones de ma\u00edz biotecnol\u00f3gico.<\/p>\n<p>El ma\u00edz biotecnol\u00f3gico plantado y cosechado en Espa\u00f1a se utiliza exclusivamente en la producci\u00f3n de piensos compuestos, donde se etiqueta para contener \u201corganismos modificados gen\u00e9ticamente\u201d antes de venderse para su uso en la robusta industria ganadera espa\u00f1ola.
