Monsanto dice que los lanzamientos en Am\u00e9rica del Norte de sus nuevos rasgos de cultivos gen\u00e9ticamente modificados (GM) marcan el comienzo de una explosi\u00f3n de productos de alto impacto. \u201cEste a\u00f1o ver\u00e1 el primero de esos productos revolucionarios que se entregar\u00e1n en la granja\u201d, dijo Robb Fraley, director de tecnolog\u00eda de Monsanto.<\/p>\n

Plantaci\u00f3n de ma\u00edz SmartStax: una combinaci\u00f3n de ocho caracter\u00edsticas tolerantes a herbicidas e insectos en un solo producto, desarrollado junto con Dow AgroSciences<\/a> - se espera en alrededor de 1,6 millones de hect\u00e1reas (ha). Si bien los agricultores que cultivan con SmartStax en los EE. UU. Y Canad\u00e1 ahora tambi\u00e9n deben plantar un peque\u00f1o refugio de una variedad no protegida para minimizar el riesgo de tolerancia a las plagas objetivo, Monsanto ahora est\u00e1 trabajando en una forma que permita a los agricultores plantar un solo producto en los campos. El producto combina biotecnolog\u00eda con semillas de refugio 5% en una bolsa, por lo que no es necesario plantar un refugio separado.
