Las variedades transg\u00e9nicas de algod\u00f3n, ma\u00edz y soja est\u00e1n aprobadas para la siembra comercial y representan aproximadamente 92% de algod\u00f3n de Sud\u00e1frica, 44% de ma\u00edz y 59% de soja.<\/p>\n<p>Las decisiones regulatorias del pa\u00eds las toma un Consejo Ejecutivo con representantes de ocho departamentos. Un Comit\u00e9 Asesor (CA) compuesto por expertos de todo el pa\u00eds realiza an\u00e1lisis de riesgo sobre productos biotecnol\u00f3gicos y da sus recomendaciones al Consejo para la aprobaci\u00f3n final de cualquier producto biotecnol\u00f3gico.<\/p>\n<p>Recientemente ha habido objeciones p\u00fablicas de grupos de presi\u00f3n anti-transg\u00e9nicos. Estos grupos est\u00e1n exigiendo informaci\u00f3n no cient\u00edfica de la oficina del Registro de OGM del Departamento Nacional de Agricultura y efectivamente han retrasado el proceso de nuevas aprobaciones.
