UU. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ars.usda.gov\/is\/pr\">Servicio de Investigaciones Agropecuarias<\/a>. El pulg\u00f3n del guisante<em>Acyrthosiphon pisum<\/em>), que se alimenta de guisantes y otras legumbres, es una plaga destructiva que causa da\u00f1os a los cultivos globales por valor de cientos de millones de d\u00f3lares anualmente. Entre los hallazgos de los investigadores se encontraba el n\u00famero superior de genes en el pulg\u00f3n del guisante: 35.000, en comparaci\u00f3n con 15.000 a 20.000 en otros insectos y 25.000 en humanos, seg\u00fan Stephen Richards de <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcm.edu\/\">Facultad de Medicina de Baylor <\/a>en Houston, Texas, EE. UU. Muchos de estos genes probablemente sean duplicados, dicen los cient\u00edficos, con un conjunto para que funcione el pulg\u00f3n y la segunda copia que permite mutaciones.<\/p>\n<p>El pulg\u00f3n del guisante tambi\u00e9n tuvo una sorprendente ausencia de muchos genes involucrados en el sistema inmunol\u00f3gico, lo que posiblemente muestra que el insecto posee un sistema inmunol\u00f3gico d\u00e9bil.
