Aunque normalmente no comienzan el proceso hasta abril, los agricultores comenzaron inusualmente a principios de este a\u00f1o en el espera que el cultivo sea m\u00e1s resistente a los da\u00f1os de las inundaciones, as\u00ed como al virus del enrollamiento de las hojas, que tambi\u00e9n afect\u00f3 los cultivos de algod\u00f3n en 2010, seg\u00fan un art\u00edculo del 6 de abril publicado en www.commodityonline.com.<\/a><\/p>\n

El resultado de esta precauci\u00f3n adicional, combinado con un aumento en la superficie cultivada de algod\u00f3n y un mayor uso de semillas modificadas gen\u00e9ticamente, podr\u00eda resultar en una producci\u00f3n total que se acerque a m\u00e1ximos hist\u00f3ricos. Actualmente proyectada en 10,9 millones de pacas, representar\u00e1 la segunda producci\u00f3n m\u00e1s alta de la historia de Pakist\u00e1n, detr\u00e1s del total de 11,1 millones de pacas de 2003\/04.<\/p>\n

El pa\u00eds no ha tenido suficiente algod\u00f3n desde la d\u00e9cada de 1990, pero si cumple con las expectativas, ser\u00e1 un gran paso en esa direcci\u00f3n, especialmente porque el consumo interno a\u00fan est\u00e1 por detr\u00e1s de su ritmo normal. Las fuentes dicen que Pakist\u00e1n probablemente aumentar\u00e1 tanto las importaciones (debido a preocupaciones de calidad sobre el suministro interno) como las exportaciones (para aprovechar los altos precios) en 2011\/12.<\/p>\n
