La Organizaci\u00f3n de las Naciones Unidas para la Agricultura y la Alimentaci\u00f3n hizo el llamado a mejorar los sistemas alimentarios para vencer el hambre y la nutrici\u00f3n en todo el mundo.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan la FAO, nuevas cifras sobre el hambre que muestran que 842 millones de personas en todo el mundo padecen desnutrici\u00f3n cr\u00f3nica. Los modelos de desarrollo insostenibles est\u00e1n degradando el medio ambiente natural, amenazando los ecosistemas y la biodiversidad que ser\u00e1n necesarios para nuestro futuro suministro de alimentos, dijo la FAO. <br \/> \u00a0<br \/> Convertir productos de desecho como esti\u00e9rcol y restos de comida en valiosos fertilizantes o energ\u00eda puede mejorar la sostenibilidad. Las plagas y enfermedades da\u00f1an los cultivos y los animales y reducen la cantidad y calidad de los alimentos disponibles para los seres humanos. El uso de m\u00e9todos seguros y eficaces para controlar estas p\u00e9rdidas en la producci\u00f3n, el procesamiento y el almacenamiento ayuda a que los sistemas alimentarios sean m\u00e1s sostenibles, dijo la FAO.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;No podemos mejorar la nutrici\u00f3n sin seguridad alimentaria y no podemos lograr la seguridad alimentaria si no tenemos los sistemas alimentarios adecuados&quot;, dijo el Director General de la FAO, Jos\u00e9 Graziano da Silva, en la ceremonia del D\u00eda Mundial de la Alimentaci\u00f3n en Roma, a la que asistieron ministros gubernamentales, diplom\u00e1ticos, jefes de agencias de la ONU y otros dignatarios.<\/p>\n<p> Da Silva dijo que aunque los sistemas alimentarios producen suficientes alimentos para todos, m\u00e1s de la mitad de la poblaci\u00f3n mundial se ve afectada por el consumo excesivo o insuficiente. Adem\u00e1s, la p\u00e9rdida y el desperdicio de productos alimenticios afecta a un tercio de la producci\u00f3n mundial de alimentos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLos costos econ\u00f3micos del hambre son sorprendentes.
