Si bien la producci\u00f3n mundial es aproximadamente .5% m\u00e1s alta que el a\u00f1o pasado, se esperan aumentos de dos d\u00edgitos en Asia y \u00c1frica como resultado del aumento de la superficie plantada y un mejor uso de la tecnolog\u00eda, incluidos los productos fitosanitarios.<\/p>\n<p>Se espera que Tailandia recupere su t\u00edtulo como el mayor exportador de arroz y China como el mayor importador en 2014.<\/p>\n<p>China, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh y Vietnam produjeron la mayor cantidad de arroz en 2013-14, seg\u00fan el USDA. Para estos dos mercados clave, el producto se ha convertido en algo m\u00e1s que una cuesti\u00f3n de seguridad alimentaria nacional. Seg\u00fan el Instituto Internacional de Investigaci\u00f3n del Arroz (IRRI), China e India no solo son ahora los mayores productores y consumidores de arroz del mundo, que juntos representan la mitad de toda la producci\u00f3n de arroz del mundo, sino que tambi\u00e9n son los mayores importadores y exportadores de arroz del mundo. Sigue habiendo suficiente mano de obra para todos, lo que indica que China podr\u00eda alcanzar su objetivo de poder producir un aumento de 9% en granos para 2020 que necesitar\u00e1 para alimentar a su poblaci\u00f3n en expansi\u00f3n.<br \/>\nSe espera que la producci\u00f3n de arroz de la India crezca a largo plazo, aunque una posible sequ\u00eda provocada por El Ni\u00f1o podr\u00eda plantear desaf\u00edos para la producci\u00f3n de arroz.<\/p>\n<p>Las condiciones de siembra en junio y julio de 2014 reflejaron las que precedieron a la sequ\u00eda de 2009, la peor en la historia reciente de la India. Se produjeron lluvias m\u00e1s favorables en agosto y principios de septiembre, antes de la temporada. Aunque se espera que la mala temporada de monzones de la India resulte en una ca\u00edda de 2% en la producci\u00f3n, el gobierno anunci\u00f3 que comprar\u00e1 30 millones de toneladas de arroz a los agricultores locales en los 12 meses que comienzan en octubre, lo que representa un aumento de 13% en comparaci\u00f3n con el a\u00f1o anterior.<\/p>\n<p>India ya ha logrado un progreso significativo hacia la seguridad alimentaria a largo plazo gracias al arroz como alimento b\u00e1sico de la mayor\u00eda de la poblaci\u00f3n. Seg\u00fan un estudio de Agricultura y Seguridad Alimentaria, un mejor uso de fertilizantes, productos fitosanitarios y riego, sostenibilidad ambiental y variedades de arroz que producen altos rendimientos han sido tendencias emergentes en la producci\u00f3n de arroz de la India en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>En Nigeria, el gobierno est\u00e1 ofreciendo apoyo a los cultivadores de arroz al ofrecer fertilizantes 50% con descuento, as\u00ed como 25 kg de semillas mejoradas y bombas de agua a precios reducidos. USAID y su contraparte japonesa, JICA, tambi\u00e9n se asociar\u00e1n con el gobierno. JICA planea proporcionar insumos como mejores semillas, as\u00ed como equipos de molienda, tecnolog\u00eda de empaque y capacitaci\u00f3n, lo que podr\u00eda contrarrestar la disminuci\u00f3n de producci\u00f3n proyectada en este pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mercados emergentes<\/strong><br \/>\nEl USDA predice que Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Senegal y Tanzania ser\u00e1n los principales contribuyentes a un aumento en toda \u00c1frica de la producci\u00f3n de arroz a 13,1 millones de toneladas.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c1frica est\u00e1 experimentando un aumento en la calidad y variedad de semillas de arroz.
