Beat Sp\u00e4th, director de biotecnolog\u00eda agr\u00edcola de EuropaBio, la Asociaci\u00f3n Europea de Bioindustrias, emiti\u00f3 la siguiente declaraci\u00f3n:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLa Comisi\u00f3n Europea est\u00e1 perdiendo otra gran oportunidad para garantizar que las decisiones normativas europeas se basen en la ciencia. Si bien el mes pasado la Comisi\u00f3n tuvo la oportunidad de optar por reducir los requisitos de prueba innecesarios durante el proceso de evaluaci\u00f3n del riesgo de OMG, parece haber optado por ignorar la ciencia que demuestra, una vez m\u00e1s, que algunos de los requisitos de prueba de hecho no son obligatorios &quot;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCualquier proceso de evaluaci\u00f3n de riesgos\u201d, continu\u00f3 Sp\u00e4th, \u201cdebe basarse puramente en la ciencia y no en la pol\u00edtica, y debe adherirse a los principios b\u00e1sicos de evaluaci\u00f3n de riesgos, que consideran que algunos de los requisitos que existen actualmente para la evaluaci\u00f3n de riesgos de alimentos y piensos transg\u00e9nicos son totalmente innecesario. No hay lugar para la pol\u00edtica en la etapa de evaluaci\u00f3n de riesgos. Las consideraciones pol\u00edticas deben seguir siendo parte de la etapa de gesti\u00f3n de riesgos, que sigue a la evaluaci\u00f3n de riesgos &quot;.<\/p>\n<p>En 2013, la Comisi\u00f3n Europea impuso ensayos obligatorios de alimentaci\u00f3n animal de 90 d\u00edas para la evaluaci\u00f3n de riesgos de alimentos y piensos transg\u00e9nicos en un reglamento de implementaci\u00f3n. Esto sucedi\u00f3 por razones pol\u00edticas y en contra de la voluntad del organismo de evaluaci\u00f3n de riesgos de la UE, el <a href=\"https:\/\/www.efsa.europa.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Autoridad Europea de Seguridad Alimentaria<\/a> (EFSA), que rechaz\u00f3 repetidamente el requisito por innecesario. El requisito sigue estando en clara contradicci\u00f3n con el principio de evaluaci\u00f3n de riesgos con base cient\u00edfica.<\/p>\n<p>El mismo Reglamento de Ejecuci\u00f3n estipula que la Comisi\u00f3n: a) supervisar\u00e1 los resultados del proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n de la UE GRACE, en el que un consorcio acad\u00e9mico independiente concluy\u00f3 en noviembre de 2015 que no existe una justificaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica para un estudio obligatorio de alimentaci\u00f3n de 90 d\u00edas; y b) publicar una revisi\u00f3n de los requisitos de prueba sobre la base de esta nueva informaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica a m\u00e1s tardar el 30 de junio de 2016. La Comisi\u00f3n no ha publicado, hasta donde sabemos, dicha revisi\u00f3n. Adem\u00e1s, su incumplimiento de esta recomendaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica parece estar fuera de l\u00ednea con la legislaci\u00f3n de la UE que estipula un requisito claro para reemplazar, reducir y perfeccionar el uso de animales utilizados con fines cient\u00edficos.<\/p>\n<p>EuropaBio cree firmemente que la evaluaci\u00f3n de riesgos de la UE para los OMG debe respetar el enfoque caso por caso y solo solicitar estudios con valor a\u00f1adido cient\u00edfico en funci\u00f3n de las propiedades de cada OMG individual. Los estudios de alimentaci\u00f3n obligatorios no hacen nada para garantizar la seguridad o generar confianza en los sistemas de autorizaci\u00f3n de la UE, y se suman a los retrasos innecesarios bien documentados en el proceso de aprobaci\u00f3n de OMG para las importaciones, como los confirmados recientemente por la Decisi\u00f3n del Defensor del Pueblo Europeo de 15 de enero de
