La feria Annual Biocontrol Industry Meeting (ABIM) en Basilea, Suiza, finaliz\u00f3 esta semana con casi 900 asistentes, la m\u00e1s grande en sus 11 a\u00f1os, en representaci\u00f3n de 48 pa\u00edses. El espect\u00e1culo es organizado por la Asociaci\u00f3n Internacional de Fabricantes de Biocontrol (IBMA) y el Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n de Agricultura Org\u00e1nica (FIBL).<\/p>\n

Cuando comenz\u00f3 el programa, gran parte del mundo ve\u00eda los pesticidas qu\u00edmicos y los productos de control biol\u00f3gico como entidades separadas. Incluso hace cinco a\u00f1os hab\u00eda una distinci\u00f3n para muchos. Para muchos, la l\u00ednea que separa a los dos se ha difuminado seriamente, si no se ha borrado por completo.<\/p>\n

Despu\u00e9s de una serie de sesiones, presentaciones y reuniones, se destacaron algunas cosas. Aqu\u00ed hay cinco ideas que impregnaron el programa.<\/p>\n

1. Contin\u00faa la revoluci\u00f3n de los biocontroles<\/p>\n

Basilea es una ciudad interesante, pero eso no es suficiente para atraer un n\u00famero r\u00e9cord de asistentes. El inter\u00e9s en el segmento de mercado sigue creciendo tanto de las multinacionales que invierten en el espacio como de las peque\u00f1as empresas especializadas en biocontroles.<\/p>\n

2. Los conductores<\/p>\n

El deseo insaciable de los consumidores por los productos org\u00e1nicos ha empujado a los productores a invertir en productos de control biol\u00f3gico para proteger sus cultivos. Si bien los consumidores tienen conceptos err\u00f3neos sobre los cultivos org\u00e1nicos (muchos piensan que significa que no hay pesticidas de ning\u00fan tipo), el segmento de la industria contin\u00faa expandi\u00e9ndose.<\/p>\n

Adem\u00e1s, los productores convencionales se est\u00e1n moviendo para incorporar controles biol\u00f3gicos en sus programas de pesticidas porque estos productos pueden facilitar el manejo del final de la temporada (control de plagas antes de la cosecha).<\/p>\n

3. La ciencia apoya al segmento<\/p>\n

Si bien el t\u00e9rmino aceite de serpiente todav\u00eda se difunde, ahora generalmente est\u00e1 precedido por las palabras "hubo un momento en que se consideraron los controles biol\u00f3gicos ..." Si una empresa planea llevar un producto al mercado, debe tener datos de eficacia adjuntos.<\/p>\n

4. En lo que respecta al registro, EE. UU. Es l\u00edder<\/p>\n

5. La educaci\u00f3n sigue siendo necesaria<\/p>\n

A pesar de la conciencia, todav\u00eda quedan claves. Los biocontroles pueden ser efectivos pero generalmente requieren un poco m\u00e1s de atenci\u00f3n que sus contrapartes qu\u00edmicas. El momento y la forma en que se aplican los biocontroles pueden tener un gran impacto en su eficacia.
