Huanglongbing, una enfermedad bacteriana mortal de los c\u00edtricos, tambi\u00e9n conocida como enverdecimiento de los c\u00edtricos, ya ha causado una p\u00e9rdida estimada de $15 mil millones en ingresos para la industria. Los c\u00edtricos son la fruta m\u00e1s consumida en los EE. UU. Con una industria anual estimada de $9 mil millones. Estos n\u00fameros est\u00e1n cambiando r\u00e1pidamente, las p\u00e9rdidas aumentan y el tama\u00f1o de la industria disminuye cada a\u00f1o. Seg\u00fan un estudio financiado por el USDA, se observ\u00f3 que Florida, que produce 66% del total de c\u00edtricos de EE. UU., Experiment\u00f3 una reducci\u00f3n de casi 60% en la producci\u00f3n de c\u00edtricos en los \u00faltimos 15 a\u00f1os. Brasil y China, que producen casi el doble que Estados Unidos, tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1n luchando con el enverdecimiento de los c\u00edtricos.<\/p>\n<p>Teniendo en cuenta este enorme problema de la enfermedad de los c\u00edtricos, el USDA est\u00e1 buscando activamente nuevas estrategias que puedan evitar grandes p\u00e9rdidas en la agricultura. Los investigadores del USDA ahora est\u00e1n utilizando la tecnolog\u00eda FANA de silenciamiento de ARN de pr\u00f3xima generaci\u00f3n de AUM para combatir las bacterias pat\u00f3genas de las plantas. <em>Candidatus <\/em>Liberibacter y plagas de los c\u00edtricos como el gorgojo de la ra\u00edz de los c\u00edtricos y el ps\u00edlido asi\u00e1tico de los c\u00edtricos. Los resultados preliminares mostraron un aumento en la mortalidad de insectos y una reducci\u00f3n de bacterias en los \u00e1rboles de c\u00edtricos. Esta es la primera evidencia de la administraci\u00f3n exitosa de oligonucle\u00f3tidos antisentido de FANA (ASO de FANA) a las plantas a trav\u00e9s de aerosoles foliares, absorci\u00f3n de ra\u00edces e inyecciones en el tronco de los \u00e1rboles; y proporciona un nuevo enfoque para el manejo de plagas agr\u00edcolas y pat\u00f3genos de plantas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDada la resistencia de los pesticidas convencionales, existe una necesidad cada vez mayor de nuevas tecnolog\u00edas innovadoras para proteger las plantas. Nos complace compartir que, en este estudio colaborativo con el Servicio de Investigaci\u00f3n Agr\u00edcola del USDA (USDA-ARS), nuestro enfoque de silenciamiento de ARN FANA de pr\u00f3xima generaci\u00f3n ha mostrado datos muy prometedores en el manejo de plagas y pat\u00f3genos agr\u00edcolas debido a su capacidad para matar o manipular bacterias, insectos o virus. Esperamos que nuestros esfuerzos combinados con el USDA puedan ayudar pronto a ahorrar miles de millones de d\u00f3lares en la industria de los c\u00edtricos \u201d, declar\u00f3 Veenu Aishwarya, fundador y director ejecutivo de AUM LifeTech. \u201cEs importante destacar que, aunque la tecnolog\u00eda FANA de AUM funciona a nivel gen\u00e9tico, no crea organismos modificados gen\u00e9ticamente.
