Luca Bonini sabe que existen desaf\u00edos a corto y largo plazo a los que se enfrenta la industria de los bioestimulantes. Como el nuevo presidente del Consejo Europeo de la Industria de Bioestimulantes (EBIC)<\/a>, est\u00e1 listo para enfrentar directamente esos desaf\u00edos.<\/p>\n

Bonini es CEO y propietario de Italpollina, miembro fundador de EBIC y productor de bioestimulantes, fertilizantes org\u00e1nicos y microbios beneficiosos. Fue elegido para la presidencia de EBIC debido a su amplia visi\u00f3n de la industria y la presencia global de Italpollina (la compa\u00f1\u00eda, con ubicaciones en 12 pa\u00edses, cuenta con una tasa de exportaci\u00f3n de m\u00e1s de 50%). Su mandato de dos a\u00f1os comenz\u00f3 en noviembre despu\u00e9s de la Asamblea General de EBIC.<\/p>\n

Asume el cargo en un momento en que la industria est\u00e1 experimentando un crecimiento en diferentes partes del mundo. Se espera que el mercado mundial de bioestimulantes alcance $4.14 mil millones para 2025 (en comparaci\u00f3n con un estimado de $1.74 mil millones en 2016), seg\u00fan un informe publicado en marzo de 2018 por Grand View Research, con sede en San Francisco<\/a>. Un desaf\u00edo es adoptar regulaciones en todo el mundo que definan los "bioestimulantes". Bonini dice que se tom\u00f3 un paso cr\u00edtico en noviembre, cuando la UE alcanz\u00f3 un acuerdo preliminar sobre un borrador de revisi\u00f3n de una regulaci\u00f3n europea de productos fertilizantes. La esperanza es que el reglamento lleve a la creaci\u00f3n de un mercado de bioestimulantes en toda la UE. El reglamento permite actos delegados, medidas necesarias para la evoluci\u00f3n continua en cuestiones relativas a la industria, y tiene en cuenta el progreso tecnol\u00f3gico en curso y las nuevas pruebas cient\u00edficas. Aparte de la pregunta de definici\u00f3n, Bonini espera un desaf\u00edo a largo plazo que proviene de diferentes sectores: la aceptaci\u00f3n continua de los bioestimulantes por parte de la comunidad cient\u00edfica, la academia y los agricultores como un complemento viable para otros insumos agr\u00edcolas. En el pasado, los cient\u00edficos y el mundo acad\u00e9mico no siempre han aceptado los bioestimulantes como insumo de cultivos, casi diciendo que son parte de un "mercado en la sombra", se\u00f1ala. Para la comunidad agr\u00edcola, Bonini quiere ver el d\u00eda en que haya una aceptaci\u00f3n total de los bioestimulantes como un insumo de cultivo \u201coficial\u201d.<\/p>\n

Para ayudar a resolver estos desaf\u00edos, Bonini dice que parte de su lista de tareas pendientes como presidente de EBIC ser\u00e1 ayudar a crear l\u00edmites entre las diferentes categor\u00edas de insumos agr\u00edcolas. Esto ayudar\u00e1 a dar a conocer que los bioestimulantes son un insumo de cultivo independiente. \u201cNecesitamos tener claro cu\u00e1ndo un producto es un bioestimulante\u201d, dice, y se\u00f1ala que el trabajo en esto ya ha comenzado. "EBIC tiene un c\u00f3digo de conducta en el que sus empresas miembro se comprometen a dejar muy claros estos l\u00edmites".<\/p>\n

Otra forma en que Bonini tiene la intenci\u00f3n de enfrentar los desaf\u00edos de la industria es un enfoque de educaci\u00f3n de m\u00faltiples frentes que incluye distribuidores, agricultores y, quiz\u00e1s igualmente importante, estudiantes agr\u00edcolas.<\/p>\n

Los distribuidores, dice, deben conocer el valor de los bioestimulantes para poder ofrecer los productos a los agricultores. Y los agricultores deben comprender que los bioestimulantes son un insumo de cultivo eficaz. \u201c(Los agricultores) necesitan saber que un bioestimulante no es solo una f\u00f3rmula m\u00e1gica\u201d, dice Bonini. \u201cLos bioestimulantes tienen un uso pr\u00e1ctico. Proporcionan resultados.<\/p>\n

\u201cLa gente mira a los bioestimulantes y dice que existen, pero no est\u00e1 segura de qu\u00e9 son o qu\u00e9 hacen. La primera responsabilidad de la industria es explicar al agricultor y al distribuidor c\u00f3mo funcionan los productos \u201d.<\/p>\n

La industria no solo necesita educar al sector agr\u00edcola sobre qu\u00e9 es un bioestimulante, sino que tambi\u00e9n necesita ayudar a los agricultores a aplicar correctamente los productos para lograr el impacto m\u00e1s efectivo. Un ejemplo, se\u00f1ala Bonini, es educar a los agricultores sobre qu\u00e9 esperar al aplicar bioestimulantes en diferentes \u00e9pocas del a\u00f1o. Los agricultores pueden notar diferencias, pero es posible que no se den cuenta de que es la \u00e9poca del a\u00f1o, no la forma en que se aplica el producto.<\/p>\n

A nivel universitario, Bonini tiene varios objetivos. Una es presionar a los programas universitarios de ciencias agr\u00edcolas para que incluyan una discusi\u00f3n sobre los bioestimulantes en el trabajo de clase. \u201cNecesitamos alertar a los estudiantes y profesores y ense\u00f1arles sobre los bioestimulantes\u201d, dice.<\/p>\n

Tambi\u00e9n buscar\u00e1 asegurar que cualquier discusi\u00f3n acad\u00e9mica sobre bioestimulantes est\u00e9 separada de otros insumos agr\u00edcolas. \u201cHay cap\u00edtulos sobre gen\u00e9tica, semillas, fertilizantes y pesticidas\u201d, se\u00f1ala Bonini. \u201cDeber\u00eda haber un cap\u00edtulo separado sobre bioestimulantes, y no solo una menci\u00f3n en un p\u00e1rrafo.
