Diferentes feromonas hacen sonar alarmas, se\u00f1alan rastros de comida y marcan territorios. Las hembras secretan feromonas sexuales para atraer parejas potenciales.<\/p>\n<p>En la protecci\u00f3n de cultivos, las feromonas sexuales producidas artificialmente alejan a los insectos machos de las hembras reales. Desorientan a los machos, frustran el proceso de apareamiento y, por lo tanto, reducen la poblaci\u00f3n de insectos sin matarlos. Los polinizadores y los insectos ben\u00e9ficos est\u00e1n ilesos.<\/p>\n<p>Los agricultores pueden rociar las feromonas no t\u00f3xicas o comprar dispensadores que liberan feromonas de forma intermitente. Otra opci\u00f3n es usar feromonas como cebo para atrapar insectos, estimar la poblaci\u00f3n y determinar si se justifican los pesticidas.<\/p>\n<p>Emily Symmes \u2014 Gerente s\u00e9nior de Servicios T\u00e9cnicos en <a href=\"https:\/\/www.suterra.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Suterra<\/a>, un fabricante de productos para el control de plagas ambientalmente sustentables, incluidas las feromonas, con oficinas en los EE. Sin embargo, el proceso era costoso, por lo que solo los cultivos de alto valor como manzanas, peras y uvas se proteg\u00edan con feromonas.<\/p>\n<p>Un avance tecnol\u00f3gico desarrollado en los \u00faltimos 10 a\u00f1os pretende reducir considerablemente el costo de producci\u00f3n de feromonas.
