Investigaciones como este proyecto est\u00e1n haciendo precisamente eso y ya est\u00e1n mostrando resultados prometedores. Es posible que m\u00e1s pruebas de campo supongan un avance muy necesario\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Los estomas son poros microsc\u00f3picos en las hojas de los cultivos que act\u00faan como sitios para el intercambio de gases. Los estomas permiten la fotos\u00edntesis mediante la absorci\u00f3n de di\u00f3xido de carbono y moderan la liberaci\u00f3n de vapor de agua. Los investigadores encontraron que tanto el arroz con reducciones moderadas como fuertes en la densidad estom\u00e1tica conservaba m\u00e1s agua que el arroz silvestre. Pruebas adicionales utilizando distintos grados de agua encontraron que la edici\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica no afect\u00f3 el rendimiento de los cultivos en invernaderos.<\/p>\n<p>Hasta ahora, las pruebas del arroz modificado gen\u00e9ticamente se han realizado en invernaderos de laboratorio. El equipo est\u00e1 cultivando tres l\u00edneas de arroz (tipo silvestre, densidad estom\u00e1tica moderadamente reducida y densidad estom\u00e1tica muy reducida) tanto en condiciones de buen riego como de sequ\u00eda. En el sitio de prueba se est\u00e1n realizando m\u00e1s pruebas para detectar diferencias en la eficiencia del uso del agua, la regulaci\u00f3n t\u00e9rmica, el rendimiento y otras propiedades agron\u00f3micas entre las variedades.<\/p>\n<p>Como muchas tecnolog\u00edas de edici\u00f3n de genes son relativamente nuevas, esta investigaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n servir\u00e1 como caso de prueba para trasladar cultivos editados gen\u00e9ticamente de un crecimiento limitado en un laboratorio a tierras agr\u00edcolas m\u00e1s grandes. Como parte de este proyecto, el CIAT ayudar\u00e1 a integrar el rasgo editado en el arroz m\u00e1s utilizado por los productores. Optimizar esta transici\u00f3n permitir\u00e1 que estos y otros cultivos lleguen a los productores m\u00e1s r\u00e1pidamente.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;La promesa de la edici\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica depende de su
