{"id":74840,"date":"2023-12-27T12:27:31","date_gmt":"2023-12-27T17:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.agribusinessglobal.com\/?p=74840"},"modified":"2023-12-20T13:30:45","modified_gmt":"2023-12-20T18:30:45","slug":"africa-how-kenyan-farmers-are-transitioning-to-biopesticides-for-fall-armyworm-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.agribusinessglobal.com\/es\/rss-import\/africa-how-kenyan-farmers-are-transitioning-to-biopesticides-for-fall-armyworm-management\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00c1frica: c\u00f3mo los agricultores kenianos est\u00e1n haciendo la transici\u00f3n a los biopesticidas para el control del gusano cogollero"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Investigadores del centro regional de CABI para \u00c1frica organizaron un evento de campo para agricultores en el condado de Machakos, Kenia, brindando capacitaci\u00f3n integral a 582 agricultores sobre la producci\u00f3n de insecticidas a base de baculorvirus para el manejo del gusano cogollero (<em>Spodoptera<\/em> <em>frugiperda<\/em>), de acuerdo a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.en.krishakjagat.org\/biologicals\/cabi-empowers-farmers-in-kenya-on-a-cost-efficient-sustainable-and-promising-alternative-for-fall-armyworm-management\/#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Krishak Jagat<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>El equipo tambi\u00e9n realiz\u00f3 evaluaciones para medir la competencia de los agricultores en el manejo del gusano cogollero mediante biopesticidas, abord\u00f3 los desaf\u00edos que enfrentan los peque\u00f1os agricultores y evalu\u00f3 sus actitudes y receptividad hacia la adopci\u00f3n de esta innovadora tecnolog\u00eda de producci\u00f3n de baculovirus.<\/p>\n<p>Los agricultores fueron capacitados por investigadores de CABI, entre ellos Violet Ochieng, oficial de investigaci\u00f3n especializada en tecnolog\u00eda ISM-Drone, Stacey Odunga, asistente de investigaci\u00f3n, y Maureen Njenga, quien tambi\u00e9n es asistente de investigaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Plaga destructiva<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>El gusano cogollero es una plaga destructiva y ha causado grandes da\u00f1os a los cultivos durante a\u00f1os. Representa una amenaza importante para la seguridad alimentaria y los medios de vida. La plaga afecta principalmente al ma\u00edz, que es el principal cultivo comercial de millones de peque\u00f1os agricultores en \u00c1frica, pero tambi\u00e9n amenaza a m\u00e1s de 80 especies de plantas m\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<p>Los agricultores dependen principalmente de pesticidas sint\u00e9ticos, que son caros y la mayor\u00eda de ellos no han resultado satisfactorios para erradicar esta plaga invasora. Esta insuficiencia podr\u00eda deberse a la limitada capacidad de compra de los agricultores, que les lleva a optar por productos m\u00e1s baratos, al desconocimiento de las opciones adecuadas, a las dificultades para acceder a productos eficaces y al aumento del nivel de resistencia de los pesticidas a esta plaga.<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, el uso excesivo de estos productos qu\u00edmicos podr\u00eda tener efectos adversos en la calidad de los alimentos, el medio ambiente y la seguridad alimentaria, lo que requiere una soluci\u00f3n m\u00e1s sostenible y respetuosa con el medio ambiente.<\/p>\n<p>En respuesta a estos desaf\u00edos, el proyecto Plant Health Initiative, dirigido por el Dr. Ivan Rwomushana, cient\u00edfico principal de CABI en Manejo de Especies Invasoras, est\u00e1 ayudando activamente a los agricultores a adoptar enfoques m\u00e1s seguros y sostenibles para aumentar el rendimiento de sus cultivos.<\/p>\n<p>Este apoyo implica capacitaci\u00f3n integral y pruebas de la eficacia de diferentes pesticidas, con un enfoque clave en FAWLIGEN, que es un insecticida biol\u00f3gico basado en el <em>Spodoptera<\/em> <em>frugiperda<\/em> nucleopoliedrovirus (SfMNPV) para el control espec\u00edfico de las larvas del gusano cogollero.<\/p>\n<p>En julio de este a\u00f1o, CABI tambi\u00e9n estableci\u00f3 dos granjas experimentales de ma\u00edz en las aldeas de Kitie e Itumbini en el condado de Machakos con fines de investigaci\u00f3n y capacitaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Lea mas en <a
