El pa\u00eds tiene aproximadamente 8 millones de hect\u00e1reas (Ha) que son &quot;altamente aptas&quot; para la producci\u00f3n de cultivos, seg\u00fan el Ministerio de Agricultura del pa\u00eds. Se est\u00e1 cultivando mucho m\u00e1s que eso, informa el Servicio de Agricultura Exterior del Departamento de Agricultura de EE. UU. (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fas.usda.gov\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">USDA-FAS<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>El foco de expansi\u00f3n desde fines de la d\u00e9cada de 1980 hasta hace poco tiempo ha estado en el este dentro de los principales departamentos de Alto Paran\u00e1, Itapua y Canindey\u00fa. Hasta el 80% de la producci\u00f3n de soja de Paraguay y las \u00e1reas sembradas ahora residen en estos tres departamentos. La presi\u00f3n para expandirse est\u00e1 provocando que la soja reemplace los pastizales en las regiones del noreste, centro y sureste. La deforestaci\u00f3n pr\u00e1cticamente ha llegado a su conclusi\u00f3n en el este de Paraguay, donde solo quedan alrededor de 7% de la Mata Atl\u00e1ntica Interior de Paraguay.<\/p>\n<p>La agroindustria representa el 20% del PIB de Paraguay y la soja representa casi el 70% de su producci\u00f3n agr\u00edcola anual. A partir de 2003, la soja represent\u00f3 US $800 millones de las exportaciones totales de Paraguay $1.3 mil millones, y es m\u00e1s alta en la actualidad.<\/p>\n<p>Los productores de soja esperan superar la cosecha r\u00e9cord del a\u00f1o pasado y aumentar su cosecha de soja en 10%, seg\u00fan la Federaci\u00f3n de Cooperativas de Producci\u00f3n (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pecad.fas.usda.gov\/highlights\/2008\/05\/Paraguay\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FECOPROD<\/a>) de Paraguay.
