Las tierras secas, en particular, representan una oportunidad importante para mejorar la productividad agr\u00edcola y contribuir a la seguridad alimentaria mundial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLos sistemas de cultivo de secano son complejos y est\u00e1n determinados por factores biof\u00edsicos, sociales y econ\u00f3micos. El uso de productos geoespaciales y datos satelitales para cartografiar estos sistemas puede resultar inestimable. Estas herramientas proporcionan informaci\u00f3n fundamental para la toma de decisiones, abren oportunidades para aumentar la producci\u00f3n y mejoran los ingresos de los agricultores en estos entornos dif\u00edciles\u201d, afirm\u00f3 el Dr. Stanford Blade, subdirector general de investigaci\u00f3n del ICRISAT.<\/p>\n<p>El estudio, que abarc\u00f3 un \u00e1rea de 477 millones de hect\u00e1reas entre India, Pakist\u00e1n, Nepal, But\u00e1n, Bangladesh y Sri Lanka, identific\u00f3 y mape\u00f3 27 sistemas de cultivo principales.<\/p>\n<p>El Dr. ML Jat, director del Programa de Investigaci\u00f3n Global de Sistemas Agr\u00edcolas y Alimentarios Resilientes, destac\u00f3 la singularidad de esta investigaci\u00f3n y afirm\u00f3: \u201cPrincipalmente, los estudios utilizan datos espaciales para mapear cultivos individuales o principales, como el arroz, el trigo y la ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar, o para monitorear la intensidad de los cultivos, la vegetaci\u00f3n natural y m\u00e1s.
