Rusia, Ucrania y Kazajst\u00e1n son los productores m\u00e1s importantes de la regi\u00f3n, y juntos exportaron 28 millones de toneladas m\u00e9tricas (TM) la temporada pasada. Rusia contribuy\u00f3 con la mitad de esa cantidad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"subhead\">No solo granos<\/p>\n<p>Si bien el trigo es el principal producto de exportaci\u00f3n de la regi\u00f3n, que representa 53% de su producci\u00f3n agr\u00edcola, no es el \u00fanico cultivo que se cultiva en la zona. En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, se han logrado avances tanto en la superficie plantada como en la producci\u00f3n de cebada, ma\u00edz y semillas oleaginosas como el girasol y la canola. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackseagrain.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UkrAgroConsult<\/a> estima que la producci\u00f3n de cultivos oleaginosos de 2010 representar\u00e1 29% de los cultivos de la regi\u00f3n, 5% m\u00e1s que en 2005 y m\u00e1s de 10% desde 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Se trata de una buena noticia, ya que se espera que la cosecha de trigo de este a\u00f1o disminuya debido a la sequ\u00eda generalizada en la ex Uni\u00f3n Sovi\u00e9tica.<\/p>\n<p class=\"subhead\">Promesas del Este<\/p>\n<p>A mediados de la d\u00e9cada de 2000, Europa del Este sufri\u00f3 otro tipo de problema clim\u00e1tico: principalmente una atm\u00f3sfera de corrupci\u00f3n, un entorno pol\u00edtico y legal hostil y otras barreras a la inversi\u00f3n extranjera. Durante este per\u00edodo, tambi\u00e9n hubo reformas agr\u00edcolas incompletas, una baja concentraci\u00f3n de capital agr\u00edcola y ninguna estrategia de desarrollo real para el sector agr\u00edcola.<\/p>\n<p>Si bien Europa del Este utiliza la mayor\u00eda de los mismos plaguicidas aprobados en el <a href=\"http:\/\/europa.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UE<\/a>, los objetivos de reduccion de <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pan-uk.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Red de acci\u00f3n de plaguicidas del Reino Unido<\/a> estima que en la regi\u00f3n se almacenan varios cientos de miles de toneladas de plaguicidas obsoletos de la zona sovi\u00e9tica, gran parte en Moldavia, que se utiliz\u00f3 como base experimental para la investigaci\u00f3n de plaguicidas.<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, los tiempos est\u00e1n cambiando, ya que las grandes empresas agr\u00edcolas han comenzado a afianzarse en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os. Ucrania, que produce el 6% de las exportaciones de trigo del mundo y el 21% de las exportaciones de cebada, ha establecido unas 20 explotaciones que alquilan m\u00e1s de 2 millones de hect\u00e1reas (Ha) de tierra en los \u00faltimos 2 a 3 a\u00f1os, seg\u00fan UkrAgroConsult. Si bien Kazajst\u00e1n tiene menos propiedades (solo unas cinco grandes empresas), esas empresas alquilan entre 3 y 4 millones de hect\u00e1reas de tierras agr\u00edcolas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"subhead\">MACE avanza<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mace-events.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MAZO<\/a> - Modern Agriculture in Central and Eastern Europe - es un proyecto dedicado a superar los problemas de las organizaciones agr\u00edcolas en Europa Central y Oriental (ECO) y proporcionar una formaci\u00f3n agr\u00edcola moderna. &quot;La agricultura en Europa Central y Oriental ha experimentado transformaciones radicales de una antigua socialista a una capitalista o, como dicen algunos, a la econom\u00eda de mercado&quot;, explica el coordinador del proyecto, el Dr. Uwe Jens Nagel, profesor de Extensi\u00f3n Agr\u00edcola y Ciencias de la Comunicaci\u00f3n en Berl\u00edn. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hu-berlin.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Universidad Humboldt<\/a>. \u201cLos productores agr\u00edcolas, los tomadores de decisiones y los investigadores enfrentan como consecuencia inmensos desaf\u00edos en la b\u00fasqueda de la modernizaci\u00f3n de la agricultura de Europa central y oriental\u201d. El proyecto MACE incluye una serie de conferencias, escuelas de verano y cursos de formaci\u00f3n organizados conjuntamente con socios en Bulgaria, Rep\u00fablica Checa, Alemania, Hungr\u00eda, Polonia, Ruman\u00eda, Rusia y Eslovaquia.<\/p>\n<p>En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, la UE ha &quot;dedicado importantes recursos para apoyar el desarrollo rural sostenible en los pa\u00edses de Europa central y oriental&quot;, dice Nagel, y &quot;los cient\u00edficos europeos han estado a la vanguardia de la investigaci\u00f3n sobre agricultura que apoya el desarrollo rural multisectorial de amplia base&quot;. MACE continuar\u00e1 este desarrollo agr\u00edcola y econ\u00f3mico a trav\u00e9s de una segunda generaci\u00f3n de investigadores de Europa central y oriental.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl proyecto combinar\u00e1 los conocimientos adquiridos sobre la transformaci\u00f3n agr\u00edcola con los de muchos otros campos\u201d, dice Nagel. \u201cSe est\u00e1n debatiendo la reforma de la pol\u00edtica agr\u00edcola, las nuevas instituciones agr\u00edcolas, la integraci\u00f3n europea, la gesti\u00f3n de fondos orientada a la eficiencia, el marketing estrat\u00e9gico, la calidad de los alimentos y otros temas innovadores.
