AgBiTech sinaliza expansão global com novas nomeações importantes

AgBiTech, the Australian-based agricultural biotech, has appointed Dr. Paula Marçon as its Vice President for Global Development, to further the company’s U.S. and global expansion plans.

Dr. Marçon was previously a Global Research & Development Product Manager at Dupont and has extensive Brazilian, U.S., and global experience developing important insecticides for caterpillar pests.

Following her appointment to AgBiTech, Dr. Marçon will lead the field development of the company’s portfolio of baculovirus-based bio-insecticides.

Dr. Marçon said she was excited to be joining AgBiTech.

“There’s huge potential for baculoviruses to change the way farmers manage caterpillar pests and AgBiTech’s technology and expertise will enable the full potential of these bio-insecticides to be realised.

“Armigen and Heligen have shown great capacity to manage Helicoverpa e Heliothis across a wide range of crops, and as the company’s new product pipeline comes online, we’ll be able to offer a portfolio of important Integrated Pest Management tools to improve farmer profitability and sustainability.”

AgBiTech CEO Anthony Hawes said Dr Marçon was a perfect fit for the company’s growth plans.

“AgBiTech has a specific focus to develop and supply bio-insecticides for North and South American row crops, including soybeans, corn and sorghum, and Dr Marçon, with her expertise and drive, will accelerate our development program.”

The company is aiming for regulatory approvals across all major markets by 2018, creating a complete portfolio of bio-insecticides targeting the key row crop pests HelicoverpaEspópteros e Crisodeixis. This year, AgBiTech expects to receive EPA approval for Fawligen (SfMNPV), a bio-insecticide against fall armyworm.

To grow its market position in the US, AgBiTech has also appointed a new Technical Specialist in the US Mid-South, Dennis Long. Long will coordinate an extensive field development program as well as support and grow the company’s commercial activities and dealer relationships in the region.

“Dennis brings many years of technical extension, development and commercial experience to AgBiTech, with a strong entomology, insecticide and biological background, particularly in the southern United States,” Hawes said.

“He’s taking-on a key role for the company, working with decision leaders and providing technical support and advice to foster the use of bio-insecticides in the Mid-South and Texas.”

Underpinning AgBiTech’s global expansion efforts is the investment by US-based private equity firm Paine and Partners in late 2015.

“Paine’s investment showed a strong endorsement of our growth strategy and gives us the capital to make important investments in people and production.”

A key element of this strategy is the establishment of a 67,000 ft2 (6,200m2) state-of-the-art research and production facility in the US. The company aims to begin commercial operations in the next six months. The facility will provide manufacturing capability for the company’s full product portfolio, enabling AgBiTech to meet the growing global demand for its products.

Hawes said, “With major manufacturing and research operations in Australia and the US, along with our recent key hires and further expansion plans in Brazil, AgBiTech will strengthen its leading position in the bio-insecticide market.”
