India: ‘Get Innovative With Cotton’ Creates Awareness
This initiative was a part of the ongoing ‘Cool with Cotton’ campaign to generate awareness about the benefits of cotton and its uses and is part of CCI’s continued efforts to promote global cotton consumption.
The glamorous evening had models such as Amanpreet Wahi, Barkha Kaul, Himani Thapar walk the ramp in the students’ collection.
Cotton Council International created the “Get Innovative With Cotton” competition to encourage young designers to experiment with the use of cotton for different occasions.
The four themes of the show were: “elegance@ work” (corporate wear), “be chic be the star” (party wear), “chill out in comfort” (casual wear) and ethnic and contemporary (fusion wear).
The judges included Ms. Agneiszka Fijol, Senior Manager, South Asia, Cotton Council International, Ashwinder Singh, CEO, USI and fashion designers Puja Nayar and Gaurav Gupta.
“Cotton Council International has in the past team up with design schools in Tokyo and Beijing and we are happy to see that the cotton designs by Indian students are at par with the international design schools. While cotton is a preferred choice among Indians for its comfort and versatility, our research shows that consumers do not perceive it to be a fashion fabric. The creative designs showcased this evening validate cotton’s appeal as a fashionable fabric,” said Agnieszka Fijol, Manager, South Asia at Cotton Council International.
The unique aspect of the show was that it was open to students across different specialization areas – fashion design, knitwear design, accessory design and even design space.
