Malaysia To Create Palm Oil Superpower
Malaysia is the world’s largest palm oil producer, with 43 plantations listed on the Kuala Lumpur stock market. This year, the price of palm oil has increased by 23%, due partly to palm oil’s use for bio-diesel production. The index for plantation shares has increased by 48% in Kuala Lumpur this year.
The shares of Sime Darby, Kumpulan Guthrie, and Golden Hope Plantations have been suspended from trading on the stock market until the merger is made official.
The global importance of palm oil is growing rapidly, driven by increasing demand for environmentally friendly fuels and increasing use in kitchens, because it is said to be healthier than competing products.
