Cientistas da <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ars.usda.gov\/main\/site_main.htm?modecode=62-25-05-00\">ARS Dale Bumpers Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Arroz <\/a>em Stuttgart, Arkansas, EUA, que est\u00e3o examinando o genoma do arroz para encontrar resist\u00eancia gen\u00e9tica a essa grande doen\u00e7a do arroz, identificaram e confirmaram qShB9-2 como a primeira regi\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica encontrada a ter um efeito importante no controle da ferrugem da bainha. Das 73 esp\u00e9cies selvagens de arroz rastreadas para sinais de resist\u00eancia \u00e0 ferrugem da bainha, sete acessos mostraram-se promissores. Alguns desses acessos foram cruzados com variedades dom\u00e9sticas para criar um novo germoplasma resistente.<\/p>\n<p>No <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ars.usda.gov\/Research\/docs.htm?docid=7086\">Unidade de Pesquisa de Arroz em Beaumont, Texas<\/a>, EUA, cientistas da ARS t\u00eam estudado popula\u00e7\u00f5es de mapeamento gen\u00e9tico de linhas consangu\u00edneas recombinantes (RILs) da cultivar de arroz dom\u00e9stica \u201cLemont\u201d e da cultivar chinesa \u201cTeQing\u201d. Dezoito regi\u00f5es cromoss\u00f4micas nessas RILs foram identificadas como tendo genes capazes de ajudar as plantas de arroz a resistir aos danos da queima da bainha, incluindo a regi\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica qShB9-2.
