TAMALE, Gana \u2014 O vice-presidente de Gana, John Dramani Mahama, anunciou que o governo destinaria $2,4 milh\u00f5es de d\u00f3lares \u2014 mais outros $1 milh\u00e3o em subs\u00eddios agr\u00edcolas gerais \u2014 para renovar a ind\u00fastria do algod\u00e3o do pa\u00eds, que entrou em decl\u00ednio nas d\u00e9cadas de 80 e 90 devido \u00e0 infertilidade do solo e ao alto custo dos produtos agr\u00edcolas e do solo e outros insumos agr\u00edcolas, relata. No \u00e2mbito do novo programa de apoio ao algod\u00e3o, os agricultores foram instru\u00eddos a seguir as orienta\u00e7\u00f5es t\u00e9cnicas dos agricultores da Extens\u00e3o Agr\u00edcola em vez das pr\u00e1ticas agr\u00edcolas tradicionais. As pr\u00e1ticas agr\u00edcolas culturais, ou tradicionais, foram apontadas como um dos desafios para o setor, juntamente com as altas taxas de juros dos empr\u00e9stimos banc\u00e1rios e o apoio financeiro inadequado, de acordo com a Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Nacional de Produtores de Algod\u00e3o.<\/p>\n

Mahama afirmou que o apoio financeiro ajudaria os agricultores a preparar suas terras e obter sementes, fertilizantes e defensivos agr\u00edcolas de qualidade. A meta para este ano \u00e9 cultivar 10.000 hectares com uma produ\u00e7\u00e3o de 10.000 toneladas m\u00e9tricas, o que, segundo Mahama, ajudar\u00e1 o governo a determinar os n\u00edveis futuros de apoio necess\u00e1rios para reativar o setor.<\/p>\n

As tr\u00eas regi\u00f5es do norte \u2014 Norte, Alto Leste e Alto Oeste \u2014 t\u00eam capacidade tanto para consumo local quanto para exporta\u00e7\u00e3o, de acordo com Mahama Ayariga, Vice-Ministro do Com\u00e9rcio e Ind\u00fastria.
