O crescimento para o per\u00edodo de 1996 a 2006 \u00e9 um aumento de 60 vezes, a maior taxa de ado\u00e7\u00e3o de qualquer tecnologia de cultura. Por sua vez, o aumento da produtividade do algod\u00e3o Bt foi um grande contribuidor para o aumento das exporta\u00e7\u00f5es de algod\u00e3o da \u00cdndia, que dispararam de 0,9 milh\u00e3o de fardos em 2005 para 4,7 milh\u00f5es de fardos em 2006, o maior j\u00e1 registrado para a \u00cdndia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O relat\u00f3rio do ISAAA tamb\u00e9m observa que, enquanto 22 pa\u00edses plantaram culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas no ano passado, outros 29 pa\u00edses aprovaram culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas para importa\u00e7\u00e3o para uso em alimentos\/ra\u00e7\u00f5es e libera\u00e7\u00e3o no meio ambiente.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMais da metade da popula\u00e7\u00e3o global de 6,5 bilh\u00f5es de pessoas agora vive em pa\u00edses onde as culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas s\u00e3o cultivadas, permitindo que 3,6 bilh\u00f5es de pessoas se beneficiem das vantagens econ\u00f4micas, sociais e ambientais geradas por meio das culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas\u201d, disse James. \u201cCom 51 pa\u00edses no total ganhando experi\u00eancia com culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas, a aceita\u00e7\u00e3o continuar\u00e1 a crescer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Centros de Crescimento<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Em todo o mundo, muitos pa\u00edses est\u00e3o aumentando suas taxas de ado\u00e7\u00e3o de biotecnologia.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>As Am\u00e9ricas:<\/strong> Os EUA continuam a impulsionar o crescimento na Am\u00e9rica do Norte e globalmente, sendo respons\u00e1veis pelo maior aumento absoluto de \u00e1rea cultivada em 2006, com a adi\u00e7\u00e3o de 4,8 milh\u00f5es de hectares. O Brasil lidera o crescimento na Am\u00e9rica do Sul, com um aumento de 22% para um total de 11,5 milh\u00f5es de hectares de soja e algod\u00e3o biotecnol\u00f3gico, este \u00faltimo comercializado pela primeira vez em 2006.<br \/> &nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00c1sia:<\/strong> A \u00cdndia est\u00e1 emergindo como l\u00edder na \u00c1sia. O pa\u00eds registrou o aumento percentual mais substancial em 192%, ou 2,5 milh\u00f5es de Ha, para atingir um total de 3,8 milh\u00f5es de Ha, saltando duas posi\u00e7\u00f5es no ranking mundial para se tornar o quinto maior produtor de culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas do mundo, e ultrapassando a China pela primeira vez.<br \/> &nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00c1frica:<\/strong> A \u00c1frica do Sul fez avan\u00e7os significativos no ano passado para liderar o continente africano para a frente, quase triplicando sua \u00e1rea de cultivo biotecnol\u00f3gico. Espera-se que as culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas com caracter\u00edsticas de toler\u00e2ncia \u00e0 seca cheguem ao mercado dentro dos pr\u00f3ximos cinco anos, desbloqueando oportunidades substanciais de produ\u00e7\u00e3o em climas mais secos.<\/p>\n<p>Embora as Am\u00e9ricas tenham liderado a primeira d\u00e9cada de ado\u00e7\u00e3o de culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas, a segunda d\u00e9cada provavelmente apresentar\u00e1 um crescimento significativo na \u00c1sia e nos pa\u00edses em desenvolvimento da \u00cdndia, China e Filipinas, bem como em novos pa\u00edses biotecnol\u00f3gicos como Paquist\u00e3o e Vietn\u00e3.<\/p>\n<p>Na \u00c1frica, as experi\u00eancias da \u00c1frica do Sul provavelmente levar\u00e3o outros pa\u00edses a come\u00e7ar a plantar culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas, incluindo Egito, Burkina Faso e Qu\u00eania, onde testes de campo promissores j\u00e1 foram conduzidos.
