No entanto, o ciclo de planejamento usual foi reduzido, resultando em um evento um pouco menor do que nos anos anteriores.<\/p>\n<p>Isso foi mais not\u00e1vel na exposi\u00e7\u00e3o, onde havia menos de 50 estandes comerciais, em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com mais de 80 em 2007. Apenas 11 das empresas que expuseram em 2007 estavam no evento de 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Em eventos anteriores do BCPC, houve controv\u00e9rsia sobre a promo\u00e7\u00e3o de produtos qu\u00edmicos gen\u00e9ricos n\u00e3o aprovados, com alguns expositores at\u00e9 mesmo sendo expulsos. Tamb\u00e9m houve sess\u00f5es sobre biossensores, avalia\u00e7\u00f5es de risco humano, tecnologia de aplica\u00e7\u00e3o e outra amplamente orientada para o Reino Unido sobre agricultores e produ\u00e7\u00e3o agr\u00edcola.<\/p>\n<p>Um dos muitos temas que surgiram foi a necessidade de reviver a entrega de consultoria pr\u00e1tica baseada em pesquisa at\u00e9 o n\u00edvel do agricultor, a fim de aumentar a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de alimentos, preservando ao mesmo tempo os agroqu\u00edmicos, bem como a terra, a \u00e1gua e os recursos ambientais. Em suas observa\u00e7\u00f5es finais, o presidente do BCPC, Dr. Colin Ruscoe, disse: &quot;Os agricultores precisam de apoio consultivo e incentivos, n\u00e3o de &#039;varas&#039; regulat\u00f3rias, se quiserem enfrentar o desafio de integrar ainda mais pr\u00e1ticas qu\u00edmicas com pr\u00e1ticas n\u00e3o qu\u00edmicas de controle de pragas, ervas daninhas e doen\u00e7as sem incorrer em penalidades de custo e rendimento.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Os dois principais artigos de abertura na sess\u00e3o plen\u00e1ria foram dados por Peter Kendall, Presidente da National Farmers Union na Inglaterra e Pa\u00eds de Gales (n\u00e3o o Reino Unido como o programa anunciou, pois os escoceses t\u00eam sua pr\u00f3pria National Farmers Union para a Esc\u00f3cia) e Dr. Denis Kyetere, Diretor Geral da National Agricultural Research Organization de Uganda e presidente do Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa. Ambos os homens deram sua perspectiva sobre o futuro da produ\u00e7\u00e3o agr\u00edcola.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Kendal falou sobre trabalhar em conjunto para enfrentar o desafio da seguran\u00e7a alimentar global e deu uma perspectiva dos agricultores do Reino Unido sobre as quest\u00f5es. Como diz o relat\u00f3rio da Royal Society do m\u00eas passado, \u201cReaping the Benefits\u201d, a solu\u00e7\u00e3o tem que ser a intensifica\u00e7\u00e3o sustent\u00e1vel ou, na linguagem dos fazendeiros, produzir mais e impactar menos.<\/p>\n<p>Tomando o trigo como exemplo, ele disse: \u201cEspecialistas dizem que a m\u00e9dia global de rendimentos de trigo precisar\u00e1 aumentar de 2,6 para 3,5 toneladas por hectare nos pr\u00f3ximos 25 anos. Mas, os rendimentos m\u00e9dios no Reino Unido j\u00e1 est\u00e3o em 7,2 toneladas por hectare. Alguns acham que \u00e9 in\u00fatil, portanto, focar em aumentar a produ\u00e7\u00e3o aqui, mas, na minha opini\u00e3o, isso est\u00e1 perdendo o ponto. Mas ele continuou, na \u00c1frica Subsaariana (excluindo a \u00c1frica do Sul) houve apenas um crescimento modesto na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de cereais de 29% em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com 177% na \u00c1sia e 144% na Am\u00e9rica Latina. \u201cContinua sendo um fato que o crescimento da produ\u00e7\u00e3o agr\u00edcola da \u00c1frica \u00e9 mais lento que seu crescimento populacional e a demanda por alimentos dobrar\u00e3o at\u00e9 2015\u201d, disse ele. \u201cA \u00c1frica precisa de uma revolu\u00e7\u00e3o verde como a \u00c1sia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kyetere identificou uma lista de a\u00e7\u00f5es que ser\u00e3o necess\u00e1rias para atingir isso. No topo de sua lista estava a intensifica\u00e7\u00e3o da agricultura. \u201cIsso exigir\u00e1 um fortalecimento da capacidade de pesquisa e extens\u00e3o e melhores liga\u00e7\u00f5es entre a produ\u00e7\u00e3o agr\u00edcola e os mercados.
