O nematoide invade as ra\u00edzes das plantas e, ao se alimentar das c\u00e9lulas, faz com que elas criem grandes n\u00f3s, danificando a cultura e reduzindo sua produtividade.<\/p>\n<p>Trabalhando com o cientista assistente de pesquisa Guozhong Huang e o t\u00e9cnico de pesquisa Rex Allen, Hussey descobriu como tornar as plantas resistentes \u00e0 infec\u00e7\u00e3o por nematoides das galhas, uma descoberta que &quot;tem o potencial de revolucionar a resist\u00eancia \u00e0s galhas em todas as culturas&quot;, disse Hussey.<\/p>\n<p>Usando uma t\u00e9cnica chamada interfer\u00eancia de RNA, os pesquisadores efetivamente viraram a biologia do nematoide contra si mesma.
