Na Pol\u00f4nia, um dos seis pa\u00edses da UE que ainda possuem proibi\u00e7\u00f5es nacionais sobre organismos geneticamente modificados (OGM), existe uma forte demanda por biotecnologia para solucionar diversos problemas agr\u00edcolas, j\u00e1 que a venda, o registro e o uso de sementes transg\u00eanicas s\u00e3o ilegais, segundo relatos. Departamento de Agricultura dos EUA Servi\u00e7o de Agricultura Estrangeira <\/a>(USDA-FAS).<\/p>\n

A Pol\u00f4nia planeja implementar uma proibi\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 ra\u00e7\u00e3o geneticamente modificada (GM) para o gado, que entrar\u00e1 em vigor em dezembro de 2012. No entanto, o plano poder\u00e1 ser descartado caso a press\u00e3o exercida sobre o governo por associa\u00e7\u00f5es industriais, cientistas e produtores para a legaliza\u00e7\u00e3o da ra\u00e7\u00e3o GM continue. Ao argumentarem pelo cancelamento da proibi\u00e7\u00e3o, os agricultores citam o aumento constante do custo dos insumos agr\u00edcolas \u2013 especialmente fertilizantes, cujo uso cresceu mais de 201 trilh\u00f5es de libras entre 2004\/05 e 2005\/06. Apesar do status oficial da Pol\u00f4nia como "livre de transg\u00eanicos", o cultivo de sementes geneticamente modificadas ainda \u00e9 poss\u00edvel devido a uma brecha na legisla\u00e7\u00e3o. No entanto, o governo planeja atualizar em breve a lei de cultivo para garantir que nenhum plantio ocorra.
