Departamento de Agricultura dos EUA \u2013 Servi\u00e7o de Pesquisa Agr\u00edcola (USDA-FAS<\/a>) detectou 3.000 prote\u00ednas produzidas em plantas de feij\u00e3o comum que podem ajudar os criadores a desenvolver resist\u00eancia contra o fungo da ferrugem do feij\u00e3o, Uromyces appendiculatus \u2013 um grande problema para produtores dom\u00e9sticos de feij\u00e3o seco e vagem. Essa ferrugem, prevalente em todo o territ\u00f3rio continental dos Estados Unidos, faz com que as folhas se enrolem para cima, sequem, fiquem marrons e caiam prematuramente, enquanto a forma\u00e7\u00e3o de vagens, o enchimento das vagens e o tamanho das sementes s\u00e3o reduzidos.<\/p>\n

Em 2004, a ferrugem asi\u00e1tica da soja \u2013 que infecta a soja, mas n\u00e3o o feij\u00e3o comum \u2013 chegou aos Estados Unidos, amea\u00e7ando severamente a safra norte-americana. Cientistas da ARS esperam que a descoberta das prote\u00ednas de resist\u00eancia \u00e0 doen\u00e7a da ferrugem seca do feij\u00e3o ajude a identificar prote\u00ednas semelhantes na soja e a avan\u00e7ar tamb\u00e9m os esfor\u00e7os de melhoramento da soja.<\/p>\n
