LOUIS, Missouri, EUA -\u2013 Ci\u00eancia de Plantas da BASF <\/a>e Monsanto Co<\/a>. adicionaram uma quinta safra, o trigo, ao seu pipeline conjunto de biotecnologia vegetal para desenvolver safras de maior rendimento e tolerantes ao estresse, de acordo com um Comunicado de imprensa da BASF<\/a>. As empresas tamb\u00e9m est\u00e3o aumentando seus investimentos na colabora\u00e7\u00e3o, que foi estabelecida em 2007 e inclui milho, soja, algod\u00e3o e canola. Na colabora\u00e7\u00e3o original, as duas empresas dedicaram um or\u00e7amento conjunto de potencialmente $1,5 bilh\u00f5es; o novo acordo adicionar\u00e1 um investimento potencial de mais de $1 bilh\u00e3o durante a vida da colabora\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n

Cada empresa continuar\u00e1 a manter programas independentes de descoberta de caracter\u00edsticas; genes candidatos espec\u00edficos para avan\u00e7ar para desenvolvimento conjunto ser\u00e3o indicados por cada empresa desses programas. Os projetos ser\u00e3o financiados conjuntamente por cada fase de desenvolvimento, e os produtos emergentes do desenvolvimento conjunto ser\u00e3o comercializados pela Monsanto e os lucros ser\u00e3o compartilhados, com a Monsanto recebendo 60% de lucros l\u00edquidos e a BASF recebendo 40%.<\/p>\n

A BASF e a Monsanto se concentrar\u00e3o inicialmente no desenvolvimento de produtos de trigo biotecnol\u00f3gicos para os mercados norte-americano e australiano. O primeiro produto de trigo de rendimento aprimorado deve chegar ao mercado ap\u00f3s 2020, seguido por gera\u00e7\u00f5es sucessivas de variedades de trigo de maior rendimento.<\/p>\n

O trigo \u00e9 a segunda maior commodity agr\u00edcola do mundo, depois do milho, e a demanda deve crescer.<\/p>\n
