A \u00e1rea total \u00e9 estimada em 9,26 milh\u00f5es de hectares, ligeiramente inferior aos 9,56 milh\u00f5es de hectares da temporada 2007\/08, devido \u00e0 mudan\u00e7a para outras culturas em algumas \u00e1reas.
