Variedades transg\u00eanicas de algod\u00e3o, milho e soja s\u00e3o aprovadas para plantio comercial e respondem por aproximadamente 92% do algod\u00e3o da \u00c1frica do Sul, 44% do milho e 59% da soja.<\/p>\n<p>As decis\u00f5es regulat\u00f3rias do pa\u00eds s\u00e3o tomadas por um Conselho Executivo com representantes de oito departamentos. Um Comit\u00ea Consultivo (AC) composto por especialistas de todo o pa\u00eds realiza an\u00e1lises de risco em produtos de biotecnologia e d\u00e1 suas recomenda\u00e7\u00f5es ao Conselho para a aprova\u00e7\u00e3o final de qualquer produto de biotecnologia.<\/p>\n<p>Recentemente, houve obje\u00e7\u00f5es p\u00fablicas de grupos de lobby anti-GM. Esses grupos est\u00e3o exigindo informa\u00e7\u00f5es n\u00e3o cient\u00edficas do escrit\u00f3rio de registro de OGM do Departamento Nacional de Agricultura e efetivamente retardaram o processo para novas aprova\u00e7\u00f5es. No entanto, os agricultores sul-africanos plantam fervorosamente milho, algod\u00e3o e soja geneticamente modificados (GM).
