Chellamuthu, um trabalhador agr\u00edcola na aldeia de Kodumudi, Erode, Tamil Nadu, desenvolveu um spray de ervas para controle de \u00e1caros eriof\u00eddeos em coqueiros, de acordo com <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hindu.com\/seta\/2009\/07\/16\/stories\/2009071650301400.htm\">O hindu<\/a>. Chellamuthu detalha a prepara\u00e7\u00e3o como: \u201cCerca de um kg de folhas de pinha, rizoma de a\u00e7afr\u00e3o, peenari changu (<em>Clerodendrum inermi<\/em>), Aloe vera, Nochi (<em>Vitex negundo<\/em>), semente de nim (<em>Azadirachta indica<\/em>) e calotropis (<em>calotropis gigantesca<\/em>) cada um deve ser mo\u00eddo em uma pasta fina adicionando \u00e1gua suficiente e cerca de cinco litros de ess\u00eancia extra\u00edda dela. A ess\u00eancia deve ser dilu\u00edda em 15 litros de \u00e1gua (para fazer 20 litros) e pulverizada na coroa da \u00e1rvore na propor\u00e7\u00e3o de 2 litros por \u00e1rvore ap\u00f3s a colheita das nozes.\u201d Chellamuthu recomenda repetir o procedimento uma vez a cada dois meses no in\u00edcio e, mais tarde, duas vezes por ano. \u201cQuase 2.000 coqueiros tratados com minha f\u00f3rmula de ervas est\u00e3o saud\u00e1veis e cerca de 300 agricultores a est\u00e3o usando\u201d, diz ele.<\/p>\n<p>O fazendeiro tamb\u00e9m defende o uso de assa-f\u00e9tida, ou erva-doce gigante, para aumentar o rendimento das colheitas. \u201cDescobri acidentalmente que a assa-f\u00e9tida atua como repelente de pragas e auxilia no crescimento das plantas\u201d, diz Chellamuthu, acrescentando que sabe que a assa-f\u00e9tida beneficia a sa\u00fade das plantas, mas n\u00e3o sabe o porqu\u00ea. Para um acre, ele coloca um kg de assa-f\u00e9tida dentro de um saco e o coloca no canal de irriga\u00e7\u00e3o. \u201cA \u00e1gua, junto com a assa-f\u00e9tida dissolvida, repele pragas e auxilia no crescimento das colheitas\u201d, diz ele.<\/p>\n<p>Ele descobriu essa t\u00e9cnica por acidente: \u201cUma vez, brincando, sugeri ao meu vizinho que usasse o meio quilo de assa-f\u00e9tida excedente que ele tinha em suas plantas de caba\u00e7a afetadas por pragas. Eu queria provoc\u00e1-lo e n\u00e3o sabia das consequ\u00eancias\u201d, ele diz. Surpreendendo Chellamuthu e seu vizinho, as plantas n\u00e3o apenas sobreviveram ao ataque de pragas, mas tamb\u00e9m cresceram bem para produzir caba\u00e7as maiores e mais saud\u00e1veis do que as normais. Um fazendeiro de uma vila vizinha ouviu sobre o sucesso delas e, depois de us\u00e1-las em seus 2,5 acres de plantas de jasmim, teve uma boa produ\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComecei a experimentar o efeito da assa-f\u00e9tida em arroz, sementes de gergelim, amendoim, tomate, berinjela e outras culturas e descobri que o rendimento aumentou e as plantas ficaram saud\u00e1veis\u201d, diz Chellamuthu.
