Produtos biol\u00f3gicos agr\u00edcolas s\u00e3o tipicamente produtos t\u00f3picos ou de tratamento de sementes que s\u00e3o produzidos a partir de materiais naturais e usados para complementar ou substituir produtos qu\u00edmicos agr\u00edcolas, disse Fraley. Esses produtos constituem um segmento de mercado crescente, observou Fraley, e hoje representam aproximadamente $1,7 bilh\u00f5es em vendas a cada ano. <\/p>\n<p> Fraley disse que o BioDirect \u00e9 uma extens\u00e3o natural do trabalho da Monsanto em melhoramento avan\u00e7ado e biotecnologia, pois se baseia em um amplo conhecimento de gen\u00f4mica. A tecnologia BioDirect usa a aplica\u00e7\u00e3o de mol\u00e9culas que est\u00e3o na natureza, como o RNA, para diminuir a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de prote\u00ednas espec\u00edficas no organismo alvo.<\/p>\n<p> As tecnologias BioDirect eventualmente poderiam ser usadas para identificar novas oportunidades para herbicidas atuais, criar melhores op\u00e7\u00f5es de controle de insetos e oferecer novas ferramentas de controle de v\u00edrus.
