A planta, que come\u00e7ou a produ\u00e7\u00e3o no final de 2011, tem capacidade de 60.000 toneladas m\u00e9tricas por ano e est\u00e1 abastecendo o mercado regional, disse. As despesas para a planta estavam na \u201cfaixa baixa de dois d\u00edgitos de milh\u00f5es de euros\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvestimos em uma nova planta de produ\u00e7\u00e3o para fortalecer ainda mais nossa posi\u00e7\u00e3o competitiva no mercado de r\u00e1pido crescimento de biodiesel na Am\u00e9rica do Sul, disse Stefano Pigozzi, Presidente da Inorganic Chemicals da BASF em uma declara\u00e7\u00e3o. \u201cEsta start-up apoia nossa iniciativa estrat\u00e9gica de trabalhar o mais pr\u00f3ximo poss\u00edvel de nossos clientes e atend\u00ea-los ainda melhor, fornecendo um suprimento local e est\u00e1vel de metilato de s\u00f3dio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O metilato de s\u00f3dio \u00e9 um catalisador para a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de biodiesel, que tem se tornado cada vez mais uma alternativa importante para combust\u00edveis diesel. A legisla\u00e7\u00e3o no Brasil exige que o combust\u00edvel contenha 5% de biodiesel. Na Argentina, o biodiesel comp\u00f5e 7% de combust\u00edvel. Outros pa\u00edses da Am\u00e9rica do Sul t\u00eam legisla\u00e7\u00e3o semelhante.<\/p>\n<p>Al\u00e9m da planta brasileira, a BASF tamb\u00e9m opera uma planta de metilato de s\u00f3dio em Ludwigshafen, Alemanha.
