Muitos produtores de algod\u00e3o paquistaneses, em uma tentativa de recuperar parte do que perderam nas devastadoras enchentes de 2010, come\u00e7aram a plantar seu algod\u00e3o j\u00e1 em janeiro de 2011. Embora normalmente n\u00e3o iniciem o processo at\u00e9 abril, os agricultores come\u00e7aram excepcionalmente cedo este ano na esperan\u00e7a de que a colheita seja mais resistente aos danos causados pelas enchentes, bem como ao v\u00edrus da folha enrugada, que tamb\u00e9m prejudicou as planta\u00e7\u00f5es de algod\u00e3o em 2010, de acordo com um artigo de 6 de abril publicado em www.commodityonline.com.<\/a><\/p>\n

O resultado dessa precau\u00e7\u00e3o extra \u2013 combinada com um aumento na \u00e1rea de algod\u00e3o e maior uso de sementes geneticamente modificadas \u2013 pode resultar em uma produ\u00e7\u00e3o total que se aproxima de m\u00e1ximas hist\u00f3ricas. Atualmente projetada em 10,9 milh\u00f5es de fardos, representar\u00e1 a segunda maior produ\u00e7\u00e3o j\u00e1 registrada para o Paquist\u00e3o, atr\u00e1s do total de 11,1 milh\u00f5es de fardos de 2003\/04.<\/p>\n

O pa\u00eds n\u00e3o tem sido suficiente em algod\u00e3o desde a d\u00e9cada de 1990, mas se atender \u00e0s expectativas, ser\u00e1 um grande passo nessa dire\u00e7\u00e3o, especialmente porque o consumo dom\u00e9stico ainda est\u00e1 atrasado em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao seu ritmo normal. Fontes dizem que o Paquist\u00e3o provavelmente aumentar\u00e1 tanto as importa\u00e7\u00f5es (devido a preocupa\u00e7\u00f5es com a qualidade do fornecimento dom\u00e9stico) quanto as exporta\u00e7\u00f5es (para aproveitar os altos pre\u00e7os) em 2011\/12.<\/p>\n

A escassez de algod\u00e3o do ano passado levou a um grande aumento nas importa\u00e7\u00f5es de fibras sint\u00e9ticas das f\u00e1bricas.
