“We are seeing increased demand for information, new requests and new criteria being implemented – like cutoff criteria in Brazil – to approve a registration…It’s a difficult scenario for innovation today at Syngenta because we have to face all of those issues, and we have to really know the molecule’s chances for registration. Registration timelines in Brazil can take up to three to four years years and we have limited infrastructure and resources inside the government.”<\/p>\n

We in the crop protect industry have an obligation to step up and be interactive and responsive when issues do arise related to crop protection products.”<\/p>\n Jay Vroom, President and CEO, CropLife America<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n “The silver lining to the cloud is that the corn and soybean harvest isn’t going to be nearly as good as anticipated. When you look at futures prices for both of these crops, they’re sustained out in 2012 and into 2013. Basically, looking at what could have been a much more negative outlook for 2013, it is now more positive because of crop prices being sustained.”<\/p>\n Matthew Phillips, Phillips McDougall, speaking about the US soybean and corn harvest<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n “In 2010, data shows glyphosate turnover globally was over $4 billion. With that being the case, it’s not just a dollar volume, glyphosate impacts many other active ingredients. It impacts pre emergence. It impacts post emergence because of the elasticity and the amount of uses it has with the advent of Roundup Ready technology. Even further more, it doesn’t stop at crop protection products, it impacts the value of seed and traits.”<\/p>\n Dean Hendrickson, Global Glyphosate Supply Lead for Monsanto Co.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n “When you see a demand for innovation because the market is out there and willing, you also see the potential for regulators to get involved. That could be at the federal level and certainly at the state level.
