Estima-se que 180 milh\u00f5es de africanos n\u00e3o tinham acesso a uma quantidade di\u00e1ria adequada de alimentos para levar vidas saud\u00e1veis e produtivas. No entanto, 70% de todos os africanos estavam envolvidos na agricultura de subsist\u00eancia, seja como produtores ou trabalhadores. <\/p>\n<p>No entanto, a inseguran\u00e7a alimentar do continente est\u00e1 intimamente ligada \u00e0 produ\u00e7\u00e3o insuficiente de alimentos, em oposi\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 m\u00e1 distribui\u00e7\u00e3o e \u00e0 falta de poder de compra no caso do Sul da \u00c1sia e de outras regi\u00f5es. Parte da falta de produ\u00e7\u00e3o insuficiente de alimentos na \u00c1frica deve ser atribu\u00edda \u00e0 gravidade da degrada\u00e7\u00e3o do solo. Mas problemas como ervas daninhas, pragas e doen\u00e7as tamb\u00e9m representam obst\u00e1culos f\u00edsicos significativos \u00e0 baixa produ\u00e7\u00e3o per capita de alimentos na \u00c1frica.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9 justo dizer que o \u201cMovimento da Revolu\u00e7\u00e3o Verde\u201d, que mudou o setor em termos de aumento do n\u00edvel de produ\u00e7\u00e3o por hectare de terra cultivada, em resposta \u00e0 necessidade de produzir quantidade suficiente de alimentos para atender \u00e0 crescente popula\u00e7\u00e3o da \u00e9poca, n\u00e3o beneficiou a agricultura africana. <\/p>\n<p>\u00c9 igualmente razo\u00e1vel supor que isso pode ter sido causado por uma quebra de pr\u00e1ticas tradicionais, conforme indicado anteriormente por acad\u00eamicos, juntamente com a baixa prioridade dada ao setor pelos governos africanos. <\/p>\n<p>Em termos mais simples, a Revolu\u00e7\u00e3o Verde foi criada no M\u00e9xico na d\u00e9cada de 1940 e consistiu principalmente na introdu\u00e7\u00e3o e promo\u00e7\u00e3o de um pacote composto de fertilizantes minerais, variedades de culturas de alto rendimento e mecaniza\u00e7\u00e3o. <\/p>\n<p>Olhando para o futuro, a SSA abriga cerca de 60% de terras ar\u00e1veis n\u00e3o cultivadas do mundo e reservas significativas de \u00e1gua doce. No entanto, apenas 4% de \u00e1guas superficiais e subterr\u00e2neas africanas s\u00e3o exploradas. Al\u00e9m disso, a irriga\u00e7\u00e3o cobre apenas 7% de suas terras de cultivo.
