Pa\u00edses industrializados foram respons\u00e1veis por 48% do crescimento de culturas GM, de acordo com o ISAAA. O ano passado tamb\u00e9m marcou um aumento sem precedentes de 100 vezes na \u00e1rea de culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas para 170 milh\u00f5es de hectares, de 1,7 milh\u00e3o em 1996, quando as culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas foram comercializadas pela primeira vez.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEsse crescimento \u00e9 contr\u00e1rio \u00e0 previs\u00e3o dos cr\u00edticos, que antes da comercializa\u00e7\u00e3o da tecnologia em 1996 declararam prematuramente que as culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas eram apenas para pa\u00edses industrializados e nunca seriam aceitas e adotadas por pa\u00edses em desenvolvimento\u201d, disse Clive James, autor veterano do relat\u00f3rio e presidente e fundador do ISAAA.<\/p>\n<p>Globalmente, os agricultores cultivaram um recorde de 170,3 milh\u00f5es de hectares de culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas em 2012, um aumento de 6%, ou 10,3 milh\u00f5es de hectares a mais do que em 2011, aumentando a renda dos agricultores em todo o mundo devido ao aumento<\/p>\n<p>O relat\u00f3rio do ISAAA tamb\u00e9m mostrou que a taxa e a escala de ado\u00e7\u00e3o de culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas em pa\u00edses em desenvolvimento superam em muito as de na\u00e7\u00f5es industrializadas. A taxa de crescimento de culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas foi pelo menos tr\u00eas vezes mais r\u00e1pida e cinco vezes maior em pa\u00edses em desenvolvimento, em 11% ou 8,7 milh\u00f5es de hectares, contra 3% ou 1,6 milh\u00f5es de hectares em pa\u00edses industrializados.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sud\u00e3o e Cuba lan\u00e7am culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas<\/strong><br \/> Sud\u00e3o e Cuba plantaram culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas pela primeira vez no ano passado. O Sud\u00e3o come\u00e7ou a cultivar algod\u00e3o biotecnol\u00f3gico, tornando-se o quarto pa\u00eds africano a comercializar uma cultura biotecnol\u00f3gica. Outros incluem \u00c1frica do Sul, Burkina Faso e Egito. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Agricultores cubanos plantaram 3.000 hectares de milho biotecnol\u00f3gico h\u00edbrido como parte de uma iniciativa para refor\u00e7ar a sustentabilidade ecol\u00f3gica e permanecer livre de pesticidas, de acordo com James.<\/p>\n<p>Dos 28 pa\u00edses que plantaram culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas, 20 eram pa\u00edses em desenvolvimento e oito eram pa\u00edses industrializados, em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com 19 pa\u00edses em desenvolvimento e 10 pa\u00edses industrializados em 2011. Aproximadamente 60% da popula\u00e7\u00e3o mundial, ou cerca de 4 bilh\u00f5es de pessoas, vivem nos 28 pa\u00edses que plantam culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas. <\/p>\n<p> <strong>Crescimento de culturas GM no Brasil; EUA com taxa de ado\u00e7\u00e3o de 90%<\/strong><br \/> China, \u00cdndia, Brasil, Argentina e \u00c1frica do Sul \u2013 que representam 40% da popula\u00e7\u00e3o mundial \u2013 cultivaram 78,2 milh\u00f5es de hectares ou 46% de culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas globais em 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Pelo quarto ano consecutivo, o Brasil superou o crescimento de todos os outros pa\u00edses, com 21%, e agora est\u00e1 em segundo lugar, atr\u00e1s apenas dos EUA, em \u00e1rea cultivada com culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas no mundo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUm sistema de aprova\u00e7\u00e3o r\u00e1pido baseado em ci\u00eancia permite que o Brasil adote novas culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas em tempo h\u00e1bil.
