A Organiza\u00e7\u00e3o das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas para Alimenta\u00e7\u00e3o e Agricultura fez um apelo por melhores sistemas alimentares para derrotar a fome e a nutri\u00e7\u00e3o em todo o mundo.<\/p>\n<p>De acordo com a FAO, novos n\u00fameros de fome mostram que 842 milh\u00f5es de pessoas no mundo est\u00e3o cronicamente subnutridas. Modelos insustent\u00e1veis de desenvolvimento est\u00e3o degradando o ambiente natural, amea\u00e7ando ecossistemas e biodiversidade que ser\u00e3o necess\u00e1rios para nosso futuro suprimento de alimentos, disse a FAO. <br \/> \u00a0<br \/> Transformar res\u00edduos como esterco e restos de comida em fertilizantes valiosos ou energia pode melhorar a sustentabilidade. Pragas e doen\u00e7as danificam planta\u00e7\u00f5es e animais, e reduzem a quantidade e a qualidade dos alimentos dispon\u00edveis para os humanos. Usar m\u00e9todos seguros e eficazes para controlar essas perdas na produ\u00e7\u00e3o, processamento e armazenamento ajuda a tornar os sistemas alimentares mais sustent\u00e1veis, disse a FAO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cN\u00e3o podemos melhorar a nutri\u00e7\u00e3o sem seguran\u00e7a alimentar e n\u00e3o podemos alcan\u00e7ar a seguran\u00e7a alimentar se n\u00e3o tivermos os sistemas alimentares adequados\u201d, disse o Diretor-Geral da FAO, Jos\u00e9 Graziano da Silva, na cerim\u00f4nia do Dia Mundial da Alimenta\u00e7\u00e3o em Roma, com a presen\u00e7a de ministros do governo, diplomatas, chefes de ag\u00eancias da ONU e outros dignit\u00e1rios.<\/p>\n<p> Da Silva disse que, embora os sistemas alimentares produzam alimentos suficientes para todos, mais da metade da popula\u00e7\u00e3o mundial \u00e9 afetada pelo consumo excessivo ou insuficiente. Al\u00e9m disso, a perda e o desperd\u00edcio de produtos aliment\u00edcios afetam um ter\u00e7o da produ\u00e7\u00e3o global de alimentos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOs custos econ\u00f4micos da fome s\u00e3o impressionantes.
