Uma seca prolongada na \u00c1frica Oriental prejudicou a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de produtos essenciais e elevou os pre\u00e7os em toda a regi\u00e3o, diz jornal queniano Neg\u00f3cios Di\u00e1rios<\/a> relatado na sexta-feira.<\/p>\n

Enquanto a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de caf\u00e9 dos maiores produtores da \u00c1frica \u2014 Eti\u00f3pia e Uganda \u2014 foi prejudicada pelos baixos n\u00edveis de precipita\u00e7\u00e3o, ambos os pa\u00edses esperam uma safra abundante este ano devido \u00e0s chuvas esperadas para o final deste ano. Os produtores de milho, por outro lado, podem ser ainda mais impactados pela esta\u00e7\u00e3o chuvosa, pois come\u00e7am a colher neste m\u00eas. Uma esta\u00e7\u00e3o chuvosa intensa pode impedir os produtores de colher os rendimentos j\u00e1 baixos deixados pela seca.<\/p>\n

O Conselho de Gr\u00e3os da \u00c1frica Oriental (EAGC) espera que as colheitas de milho na regi\u00e3o atinjam apenas 60% dos volumes do ano passado.<\/p>\n

Qu\u00eania e Tanz\u00e2nia produziram 2,25 milh\u00f5es e 3,659 milh\u00f5es de toneladas, respectivamente, em 2008.<\/p>\n

Para evitar escassez, a Tanz\u00e2nia proibiu as exporta\u00e7\u00f5es de milho no in\u00edcio do ano, e o Qu\u00eania est\u00e1 importando milho da \u00c1frica do Sul para refor\u00e7ar as reservas.<\/p>\n
