Tanto do foco dos biopesticidas recai sobre os protetores de cultivos que outra ferramenta de produ\u00e7\u00e3o valiosa \u00e9 frequentemente esquecida na discuss\u00e3o: reguladores de crescimento de plantas (PGRs). Embora os PGRs n\u00e3o sejam tecnicamente biopesticidas, eles s\u00e3o um segmento crescente do neg\u00f3cio de controles biol\u00f3gicos.<\/p>\n

Parte da confus\u00e3o decorre do fato de que a EPA classifica os PGRs como bioqu\u00edmicos sob o guarda-chuva de biopesticidas. \u201cEu penso em 'biopesticida' mais como uma classifica\u00e7\u00e3o da EPA do que qualquer outra coisa\u201d, diz Kevin Forney, gerente de servi\u00e7os t\u00e9cnicos da Fine Americas.<\/p>\n

\u201cH\u00e1 uma linha t\u00eanue entre prote\u00e7\u00e3o de cultivo e produ\u00e7\u00e3o de cultivo. \u00c9 por isso que preferimos o termo 'biorracional' em vez de 'biopesticida' \u2013 esses produtos n\u00e3o s\u00e3o pesticidas\u201d, diz Johan Pienaar, gerente global de neg\u00f3cios, reguladores de crescimento de plantas da Valent Biosciences Corp.<\/p>\n

PGRs oferecem op\u00e7\u00f5es para produtores<\/b><\/p>\n

Nem todos os PGRs s\u00e3o produtos biol\u00f3gicos, mas algumas estimativas colocam a porcentagem em metade ou um pouco menos do mercado de PGRs. Ter vers\u00f5es biol\u00f3gicas de PGRs dispon\u00edveis oferece vantagens aos produtores.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlguns desses produtos que s\u00e3o produzidos por fermenta\u00e7\u00e3o s\u00e3o certificados para uso em produ\u00e7\u00e3o org\u00e2nica\u201d, diz Forney. \u201cEssa \u00e9 uma boa ferramenta para produtores org\u00e2nicos que querem poder adicionar um PGR ao seu programa.\u201d<\/p>\n

Outro benef\u00edcio vem do ponto de vista do registro. \u201cEsses produtos s\u00e3o frequentemente mais f\u00e1ceis de registrar do que os n\u00e3o biopesticidas, o que permite que os produtores obtenham mais produtos novos mais rapidamente. Alguns tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o isentos de toler\u00e2ncias de res\u00edduos, tornando-os dispon\u00edveis para uma gama mais ampla de culturas\u201d, diz Forney.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs estrat\u00e9gias de produ\u00e7\u00e3o de safras mudaram\u201d, diz Pienaar. \u201cNos mercados tradicionais de alto valor \u2013 ma\u00e7\u00e3s, uvas, frutas c\u00edtricas, safras de nozes \u2013 h\u00e1 muita competi\u00e7\u00e3o entre os produtores. No final do dia, aqueles que sobreviver\u00e3o s\u00e3o aqueles que t\u00eam a melhor qualidade e maximizam a produ\u00e7\u00e3o da melhor forma poss\u00edvel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ter acesso a novos produtos bio PGR aumenta as despesas para a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de culturas especiais, mas os produtores podem ver um retorno tanto no rendimento quanto na qualidade.<\/p>\n

\u201cEsses s\u00e3o investimentos, n\u00e3o custos. Essas s\u00e3o ferramentas de produ\u00e7\u00e3o\u201d, diz Pienaar. \u201cVoc\u00ea precisa proteger esse investimento e maximizar seu potencial. Os melhores produtores est\u00e3o ganhando mais dinheiro.\u201d<\/p>\n

Novas culturas para PGRs e biopesticidas<\/b><\/p>\n

Os PGRs \u2013 tanto biol\u00f3gicos quanto sint\u00e9ticos \u2013 s\u00e3o ferramentas aceitas entre produtores de culturas especializadas h\u00e1 anos, mas esse obviamente n\u00e3o \u00e9 o caso das culturas em linha.<\/p>\n

Pienaar acredita que levar\u00e1 algum tempo para quebrar as barreiras e levar os PGRs completamente para o segmento de culturas em linha.<\/p>\n

\u201cA mentalidade ainda \u00e9 diferente l\u00e1. Enquanto um produtor de ma\u00e7\u00e3s pode nem piscar diante do custo de adicionar uma ferramenta PGR para aumentar o valor de uma safra, esse investimento est\u00e1 em uma liga totalmente diferente em compara\u00e7\u00e3o ao que um produtor de culturas em linha est\u00e1 acostumado a investir.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mas, \u00e0 medida que os biopesticidas come\u00e7am a ter uma aceita\u00e7\u00e3o mais geral em novos segmentos de cultivo, Pienaar espera que os PGRs fa\u00e7am parte da conversa.<\/p>\n

\u201cEsses s\u00e3o produtos tipicamente n\u00e3o associados a biopesticidas porque as pessoas focam nesse termo pesticida e s\u00f3 pensam em prote\u00e7\u00e3o de cultivos.
