O primeiro herbicida aux\u00ednico, 2,4-D, teve um enorme impacto na agricultura e, em 2004, a Henry Ford Foundation reconheceu o 2,4-D como uma das 75 inova\u00e7\u00f5es mais importantes dos tempos modernos.<\/p>\n<p>Mesmo ap\u00f3s mais de 60 anos de uso, o 2,4-D ainda \u00e9 um dos herbicidas mais amplamente utilizados. Em 2011, o Servi\u00e7o de Inspe\u00e7\u00e3o de Sa\u00fade Animal e Vegetal do Departamento de Agricultura dos EUA (USDA-APHIS) relatou que 64 milh\u00f5es de libras de 2,4-D foram usadas: 40% em planta\u00e7\u00f5es, 38% em gramados e plantas ornamentais, com os 22% restantes em pastagens, espa\u00e7os verdes, controle de ervas daninhas aqu\u00e1ticas e manejo de vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o industrial. O 2,4-D \u00e9 usado em uma ampla gama de planta\u00e7\u00f5es, 10% ou mais da \u00e1rea plantada de 33 planta\u00e7\u00f5es diferentes.<\/p>\n<p>O USDA-APHIS espera que o uso de 2,4-D cres\u00e7a rapidamente \u00e0 medida que ervas daninhas resistentes ao glifosato e outros herbicidas se espalham. Por exemplo, o uso de 2,4-D aumentou 70% na soja de 2008 a 2011. Um aumento ainda maior pode ocorrer \u2013 um salto de at\u00e9 seis vezes at\u00e9 2020 \u2013 se as culturas resistentes a 2,4-D da Dow AgroSciences forem amplamente adotadas. Aguardando aprova\u00e7\u00f5es regulat\u00f3rias, a comercializa\u00e7\u00e3o de milho e soja resistentes a 2,4-D sob o nome comercial Enlist pode ocorrer j\u00e1 em 2015, com o algod\u00e3o logo em seguida.<\/p>\n<p>Outro herbicida aux\u00ednico, o dicamba, tamb\u00e9m ainda \u00e9 amplamente usado ap\u00f3s 50 anos, crescendo em import\u00e2ncia como uma ferramenta para controlar ervas daninhas resistentes a herbicidas. Seu uso crescer\u00e1 rapidamente se as culturas resistentes a dicamba, de propriedade da Monsanto, forem amplamente adotadas. Aguardando aprova\u00e7\u00f5es regulat\u00f3rias, essas culturas sob o nome comercial Xtend tamb\u00e9m podem ser introduzidas j\u00e1 em 2015, aproximadamente na mesma \u00e9poca que o sistema 2,4-D da Dow. Se assim for, a situa\u00e7\u00e3o competitiva entre os sistemas de culturas resistentes a dicamba e 2,4-D ser\u00e1 intensa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gest\u00e3o da Resist\u00eancia <\/strong><br \/>\nErvas daninhas resistentes a herbicidas s\u00e3o um problema s\u00e9rio em quase todos os lugares agora. Mais de 200 esp\u00e9cies de ervas daninhas s\u00e3o resistentes a herbicidas e custam aos agricultores $2 bilh\u00f5es extras para gerenciar. Ervas daninhas resistentes ao glifosato agora infestam mais de 50% da \u00e1rea de cultivo, e essas ervas daninhas s\u00e3o frequentemente resistentes a outros herbicidas. Os herbicidas aux\u00ednicos podem ajudar os agricultores a gerenciar essas chamadas superervas daninhas \u2013 a erva-caruru (<em>Amaranto<\/em>), erva-cavala (<em>Conyza<\/em>), ambr\u00f3sia (<em>Ambr\u00f3sia<\/em>) e <em>Cochia<\/em>, raz\u00e3o pela qual muitos grupos de produtores e especialistas em controle de ervas daninhas est\u00e3o defendendo culturas resistentes \u00e0 auxina.<\/p>\n<p>Culturas resistentes a auxinas permitiriam que novas misturas de herbicidas reparassem muitas das defici\u00eancias de ervas daninhas resistentes que est\u00e3o come\u00e7ando a dominar os sistemas de culturas resistentes ao glifosato amplamente utilizados. Felizmente, relativamente poucas esp\u00e9cies de ervas daninhas desenvolveram resist\u00eancia \u00e0s auxinas, apesar de seu uso longo e generalizado. Por exemplo, apenas seis esp\u00e9cies de ervas daninhas s\u00e3o resistentes ao dicamba. Ainda assim, s\u00f3 o tempo dir\u00e1 por quanto tempo as auxinas permanecer\u00e3o eficazes em novos padr\u00f5es de uso. Os agricultores devem usar auxinas em diversos sistemas de manejo de ervas daninhas para que a tecnologia seja sustent\u00e1vel.<\/p>\n<p>Os sistemas de cultivo resistentes \u00e0 auxina ter\u00e3o outras vantagens, como aumento da atividade residual do solo, mas n\u00e3o ser\u00e3o t\u00e3o f\u00e1ceis de usar quanto os sistemas de cultivo Roundup Ready. Um problema ser\u00e1 a especificidade da resist\u00eancia ao herbicida auxina. A caracter\u00edstica dicamba n\u00e3o dar\u00e1 resist\u00eancia ao 2,4-D, nem a caracter\u00edstica 2,4-D fornecer\u00e1 resist\u00eancia ao dicamba. Quando os agricultores escolhem uma cultura de auxina, eles estar\u00e3o escolhendo qual auxina sua cultura tolerar\u00e1 se houver qualquer deriva indesejada em seus campos. A possibilidade de deriva encorajar\u00e1 os agricultores a usar a mesma cultura de auxina que seus vizinhos.<\/p>\n<p>A deriva do herbicida auxina, tanto f\u00edsica quanto de vapor, n\u00e3o \u00e9 um problema novo. Algumas das primeiras auxinas eram \u00e9steres e sais de cadeia curta altamente vol\u00e1teis que causavam danos \u00e0s plantas pr\u00f3ximas, particularmente quando as temperaturas eram altas. Algumas plantas s\u00e3o extremamente sens\u00edveis aos herbicidas auxina. Com a maior urbaniza\u00e7\u00e3o atual das \u00e1reas rurais, o p\u00fablico v\u00ea o movimento fora do alvo muito mais negativamente do que no passado.<\/p>\n<p>Alguns especialistas est\u00e3o prevendo que a deriva de pulveriza\u00e7\u00e3o de novos usos de 2,4-D e dicamba causar\u00e1 danos severos \u00e0s plantas pr\u00f3ximas, at\u00e9 mesmo reduzindo habitats e biodiversidade. Mais de 10.000 coment\u00e1rios p\u00fablicos foram postados em resposta \u00e0 Declara\u00e7\u00e3o de Impacto Ambiental do USDA sobre milho e soja resistentes a 2,4-D. Prevenir a deriva de herbicidas \u00e9 a lei, e essas obje\u00e7\u00f5es colocaram press\u00e3o pol\u00edtica sobre os reguladores e retardaram o processo de aprova\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Formulando Solu\u00e7\u00f5es<\/strong><br \/>\nPara abordar preocupa\u00e7\u00f5es sobre movimento fora do alvo, as empresas est\u00e3o desenvolvendo novas formula\u00e7\u00f5es com alega\u00e7\u00f5es de baixa volatilidade e deposi\u00e7\u00e3o melhorada. A Monsanto est\u00e1 desenvolvendo uma formula\u00e7\u00e3o do sal de diglicolamina de dicamba e do sal de monoetanolamina de glifosato sob o nome Roundup Xtend com tecnologia VaporGrip. A BASF est\u00e1 desenvolvendo uma nova formula\u00e7\u00e3o de dicamba sob o nome Engenia. A Dow est\u00e1 desenvolvendo uma formula\u00e7\u00e3o do sal de colina de 2,4-D e do sal de dimetilamina de glifosato sob o nome Enlist Duo com tecnologia Colex-DTM.<\/p>\n<p>Nenhuma tecnologia ou par\u00e2metro de aplica\u00e7\u00e3o eliminar\u00e1 o risco de deriva de herbicida. Qualquer solu\u00e7\u00e3o confi\u00e1vel precisar\u00e1 abordar uma s\u00e9rie de par\u00e2metros com base em formula\u00e7\u00f5es de produtos, tipo e orienta\u00e7\u00e3o de bico, press\u00e3o de pulveriza\u00e7\u00e3o, altura da barra, adjuvantes de controle de deriva, tamanho de gota, velocidade do vento, velocidade do solo, temperatura do ar, parceiros de mistura de tanque e o tamanho de tamp\u00f5es de cultura sens\u00edveis. As empresas empreenderam grandes esfor\u00e7os de pesquisa para definir esses par\u00e2metros para que possam definir melhor as dire\u00e7\u00f5es de uso nos novos r\u00f3tulos de produtos herbicidas de auxina.<\/p>\n<p>Se os aplicadores seguirem todas as instru\u00e7\u00f5es exigidas nos novos r\u00f3tulos de herbicidas, um forte argumento pode ser feito de que a deriva pode ser gerenciada com sucesso. Cientistas da Dow relataram que seguir as instru\u00e7\u00f5es de uso com sua nova formula\u00e7\u00e3o de 2,4-D pode reduzir a deriva de pulveriza\u00e7\u00e3o em 90% sob condi\u00e7\u00f5es experimentais, o suficiente para dar seguran\u00e7a \u00e0 soja sem a caracter\u00edstica herbicida plantada a 8 metros de dist\u00e2ncia.<\/p>\n<p>A contamina\u00e7\u00e3o do tanque de pulveriza\u00e7\u00e3o tamb\u00e9m pode contribuir para o movimento de herbicidas de auxina fora do alvo. Muitos agricultores precisar\u00e3o fazer um trabalho mais completo de limpeza de seus sistemas de pulveriza\u00e7\u00e3o, mais do que apenas usar \u00e1gua com pH alto ou am\u00f4nia e pulverizar o enx\u00e1gue para fora dos bicos. Os agricultores precisar\u00e3o de uma limpeza mais completa do sistema de pulveriza\u00e7\u00e3o com detergentes fortes o suficiente para remover os res\u00edduos duros que podem reter e liberar lentamente herbicidas de auxina que podem contaminar a pr\u00f3xima pulveriza\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>Formula\u00e7\u00f5es e aplica\u00e7\u00f5es melhoradas podem funcionar muito bem, mas precisam ser comprovadas sob uso comercial generalizado. Processos judiciais s\u00e3o prov\u00e1veis se houver qualquer movimento fora do alvo. O incentivo para entrar com a\u00e7\u00f5es judiciais pode ser muito alto, como mostrado pelos custos legais cont\u00ednuos de mais de $1 bilh\u00f5es associados \u00e0 atividade residual de um herbicida de auxina vendido brevemente sob o nome Imprelis. Quando 2,4-D e dicamba s\u00e3o amplamente usados, a fonte de qualquer desvio pode ser imposs\u00edvel de determinar e tentar avaliar a culpa pode criar um atoleiro legal.<\/p>\n<p>Alguns agricultores se beneficiar\u00e3o muito dos novos usos de herbicidas de auxina que as culturas resistentes \u00e0 auxina permitir\u00e3o, mas eles n\u00e3o ser\u00e3o a solu\u00e7\u00e3o total para ervas daninhas resistentes a herbicidas. Os sistemas de culturas resistentes \u00e0 auxina, as caracter\u00edsticas e os herbicidas associados, precisam ser usados em diversos sistemas de manejo de ervas daninhas para serem sustent\u00e1veis.
