Embora essa produ\u00e7\u00e3o global seja cerca de .5% maior do que no ano passado, aumentos de dois d\u00edgitos s\u00e3o esperados em toda a \u00c1sia e \u00c1frica como resultado do aumento da \u00e1rea plantada e melhor uso da tecnologia, incluindo produtos de prote\u00e7\u00e3o de cultivos.<\/p>\n<p>Espera-se que a Tail\u00e2ndia recupere seu t\u00edtulo de maior exportadora de arroz e a China de maior importadora em 2014.<\/p>\n<p>China, \u00cdndia, Indon\u00e9sia, Bangladesh e Vietn\u00e3 produziram a maior quantidade de arroz em 2013-14, de acordo com o USDA. \u00cdndia, China, Indon\u00e9sia, Bangladesh e Tail\u00e2ndia tiveram a maior quantidade de \u00e1rea plantada de arroz, enquanto Egito, Peru, Espanha, Coreia do Sul e China produziram, respectivamente, os maiores rendimentos por hectare. Para esses dois mercados-chave, a commodity se tornou mais do que uma quest\u00e3o de seguran\u00e7a alimentar dom\u00e9stica. De acordo com o International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), China e \u00cdndia agora n\u00e3o s\u00e3o apenas os maiores produtores e consumidores de arroz do mundo \u2014 juntos, representando metade de toda a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de arroz do mundo \u2014 eles tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o os maiores importadores e exportadores de arroz do mundo. A \u00cdndia disparou \u00e0 frente da Tail\u00e2ndia como o maior exportador de arroz do mundo nos \u00faltimos anos, a primeira vez que a Tail\u00e2ndia foi deslocada em quatro d\u00e9cadas. Da mesma forma, a China tirou a Nig\u00e9ria do primeiro lugar como importadora de arroz. O IRRI especula que esses dois mercados provavelmente continuar\u00e3o a crescer, embora os fatores que os impedem incluam dados e estat\u00edsticas question\u00e1veis da China e, na \u00cdndia, condi\u00e7\u00f5es clim\u00e1ticas e problemas de pragas.<\/p>\n<p>Para 2014, a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de arroz chinesa dever\u00e1 aumentar 2% em rela\u00e7\u00e3o a 2013.<br \/>\nAs pessoas est\u00e3o migrando das fazendas rurais chinesas, mas os agricultores n\u00e3o est\u00e3o compensando isso investindo significativamente em insumos agr\u00edcolas porque ainda h\u00e1 m\u00e3o de obra dispon\u00edvel suficiente, de acordo com um estudo do USDA de 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Pesquisadores descobriram que, embora as pessoas estejam deixando suas casas nas aldeias produtoras de arroz chinesas para trabalhar em \u00e1reas urbanas, a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de arroz \u00e9 est\u00e1vel. Chuvas mais favor\u00e1veis se desenvolveram em agosto e no in\u00edcio de setembro no momento da impress\u00e3o. Embora a fraca temporada de mon\u00e7\u00f5es da \u00cdndia deva resultar em uma queda de 2% na produ\u00e7\u00e3o, o governo anunciou que comprar\u00e1 30 milh\u00f5es de toneladas de arroz de agricultores locais nos 12 meses que come\u00e7am em outubro, representando um aumento de 13% em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao ano anterior.<\/p>\n<p>A \u00cdndia j\u00e1 alcan\u00e7ou progresso significativo em dire\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 seguran\u00e7a alimentar de longo prazo por meio do arroz como alimento b\u00e1sico para a maioria da popula\u00e7\u00e3o. De acordo com um estudo de Agricultura e Seguran\u00e7a Alimentar, melhor uso de fertilizantes, produtos de prote\u00e7\u00e3o de cultivos e irriga\u00e7\u00e3o, sustentabilidade ambiental e variedades de arroz que produzem altos rendimentos t\u00eam sido tend\u00eancias emergentes na produ\u00e7\u00e3o indiana de arroz nos \u00faltimos anos.<\/p>\n<p>Na Nig\u00e9ria, o governo est\u00e1 oferecendo suporte aos produtores de arroz, oferecendo fertilizantes 50% com desconto, bem como 25 kg de sementes melhoradas e bombas de \u00e1gua com desconto. A USAID e sua contraparte japonesa, a JICA, tamb\u00e9m far\u00e3o parceria com o governo. A JICA planeja fornecer insumos como sementes melhores, bem como equipamentos de moagem, tecnologia de embalagem e treinamento, o que poderia compensar a redu\u00e7\u00e3o de produ\u00e7\u00e3o projetada neste pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mercados emergentes<\/strong><br \/>\nO USDA prev\u00ea que Guin\u00e9, Madagascar, Mali, Senegal e Tanz\u00e2nia ser\u00e3o os principais contribuintes para um aumento na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de arroz em toda a \u00c1frica para 13,1 milh\u00f5es de toneladas.<\/p>\n<p>A \u00c1frica est\u00e1 vendo um aumento na qualidade e variedade de sementes de arroz. Variedades desenvolvidas pela Stress-Tolerant Rice for Africa and South Asia (STRASA) podem tolerar ferro, sal e frio. A produ\u00e7\u00e3o de arroz no Brasil tem aumentado constantemente nas \u00faltimas quatro d\u00e9cadas. A \u00e1rea cultivada com arroz tem diminu\u00eddo enquanto a produtividade tem aumentado.<\/p>\n<p>O USDA prev\u00ea que os exportadores sul-americanos experimentar\u00e3o um aumento na
